I’ll Show You Mine!

February 28, 2006 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 5 Comments

My Pantry that is. Since I promised back here, and then was challenged by a reader/fellow blogger over at Mungo’s Mathoms site, well I just had to figure out how to post pictures and show you my pantry.

It actually isn’t a single pantry but rather the 3 different spots that I use for food storage besides my fridge, my spare fridge in the garage, and my upright freezer 🙂

This is the door of my upstairs pantry. Actually it used to be the main coat closet before the previous owners installed a larger closet downstairs and remade this as a pantry (smart folks!). The wire rack on the door is actual made to store VCR tapes, but works very well for all my spice type stuff. The plastic thing you see on the side holding packages of spice mix is a reuse of an over the door baseball hat holder that never worked well. I just cut it from top to bottom and wound up with three strips of pockets. I stuck one on each side wall in this closet to hold those miscellaneous packages we all seem to accumulate.

These are the top two shelves of the pantry. There is actually a shelf above it where I keep my electric wok, waffle iron and parts to my food processor and other attachments for my Oster stand mixer (which used to be my moms). The top shelf you see has mainly drink mixes, snack stuff (note the popcorn kernels) and for some reason my mung beans (for sprouting) in a glass jar. (that is just their home)

These are the bottom shelves (the top one is the bottom one in the photo above). The bottom shelf you can see is a lot more spices (they didn’t all fit on the door) and you can see a large bag of TVP on the left there. What you cant see is the actual floor level which has about 3 bags of sugar, 3 bags of flour, 1 bag of whole wheat flour, a 25lb bag of rice, a rice cooker (actually you can see the top of it on the bottom left) and 2 crock pots.

These are the under the counter cabinets where I keep all my baking things, jello/pudding, icecream cones, mixing bowls, measuring cups and other miscellanea. You can see a moving box (book box actually) on the upper left shelf. There are also 3 of them across the bottom, I’ve just got too much stuff stacked in front of them to see. They are there so I can pull the box forward like a drawer and see the items in the back. I came up with that brilliant idea after a couple of military moves where I found things in the back of the cupboard that I didn’t even know I had on moving day 🙂

This is what is probably supposed to be an extra linen closet in the downstairs bathroom/laundry room. This is sort of where all the big bulk stuff goes. Extra crackers, pasta etc etc. I keep what I think I will use in the fairly near term upstairs, and then replenish from down here. I also keep the extra toiletry/personal hygene items down here, and any snack food that I don’t want dh or kiddos to eat right away.

The one area I forgot to take a picture of is the corner cabinet up in the kitchen. It has all my crackers, pasta, couscous, peanut butter and nutella etc.

That’s it, there is my pantry. Now that I’ve show your mine, you’ll have to show yours! If you do post pictures on your site let me know and I’ll put a link in below here.
eta:I’m having linking problems. I’ll add folks in a sep. post.

I reorganized my pantry last month–when the jumble of cans and equipment threatened us all with bodily harm. Here’s the “after” photo on my blog:

Way cool – thanks for sharing the photos! We used to keep a lot of food storage in the bedroom closet until my wife put a stop to it. Now the cans of tomatoes and the like live in the basement. Less convenient, but more conducive to marital happiness. 😉

    Jenn-

I’ve posted some pictures! Possibly more to come later, as my camera died halfway through. 🙁
