Improving Your Blog-Week Four

April 25, 2007 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 8 Comments

Well, so far for Improve Your Blog Month we have talked about changing templates (I did mine) reorganizeing your sidebars (done, but still need to fix my profile picture) and creating a FAQ or Welcome Page (OK, I totally fell down on the job for that one-but I still think it is worth while).

For anyone playing along-this week is supposed to be “Blogger’s Choice”. Fix whatever you feel needs fixing!

i really wish you would use spellcheck.

it is really annoying to read blogs that are gramatically incorrect, misspelled words, etc. etc.

‘organizeing’, what the hell is that?????????

Is this commenter not following his or her own advice about using spellcheck or trying to be ironic in spelling “grammatically” wrong?

Thank you for your interesting blog, Jenn. I find it very informative.

I’m right along with you, Jenn. I love the template you found for me, I am much happier with my sidebars (definitely worth the two weeks), and even though I wasn’t really shooting for it I did start an about page.

This week I choking down a big project – building an image to replace the plastic lady.

This has been good. I’d like to keep up a pace of at least doing some little thing every week …

To “Anon” #1-Personally, I find it annoying to read comments where people don’t find it necessary to follow the rule of grammar that says you capitalize the first letter of sentences and the letter I when used as a pronoun. Also you obviously are not a regular reader since 99.9% of the time I do use spell check and my posts are well laid out and correct. I take exception to the fact that you chose to loose your vitrol on me.

Anon #2-Thanks for pointing out the irony.

Rebecca-I’m with you on the project thing!

Jenn–as your sister and sworn protector I will kick any anonymous blog poster’s butt. Just tell me the time and place, “anonymous.” I don’t think anyone wants to tangle with THIS housewife šŸ˜‰

I love you. And as I’ve said before, I find your blog EXCEPTIONALLY well-written. So there!

It is unfortunate to think about people who can only feel better about themselves by putting others down. Obviously, this person is perfect and never makes an error. Nice to know there are perfect people out there ready and willing to point out others imperfections. The world really is a better place with them in it, showing us all how superior they are.

The service, inspiration, tips, humor, and insight you give to the blogging cosmos on a daily basis far outweighs a misspelled “organize-ation” or two.

    You’re awesome.
Anon #1 is just a jerk.

If you set yourself up as an authority (which you have) whereby you give out advice on managing a blog, shouldn’t you be responsible enough to make sure your own blog is in pristine order?
If someone makes a comment that a word is misspelled, you and your readers have gone on a rampage stating: #1 is a jerk, you are going to ‘kick the person’s butt’ and degrade #1 by pointing out that person’s own mistakes. Who is trying to make oneself feel better? #1 or yourselves?
And to think that just the previous day the author was begging her readers to say a prayer to God to ask for help regarding a wine tasting.
All of you sound so godly and christian like, I could ask the pope out for a date.
Glad to see it’s raining this weekend. Obviously God has answered MY prayers.

    Whoa-hold on there.

#1-I’ve never claimed to be an authority. If you read the rules, this is amateur only. This blog is about frugality-not about managing a blog. This is all in good fun, and meant only to encourage folks to work along as I am improving my own blog.

#2-It was not a simple comment of “Gee, you know you misspelled something, have you thought about using spellcheck?”. It was an attack where someone said they were sick and tired etc etc etc. And in that rant there were words misspelled and mistakes in capitilzations. So it was rude and hypocritical. Plus, it was rather uncalled for as the misspellings and gramatical errors (other than for stylistic reasons) are actually pretty rare on my blog). Interesting to note that although you were happy to be quite rude to me, when I pointed out something similar about your own post suddenly it isn’t kosher and the personal attacks start again. (Note: All I’ve done is point out the inconsistencies between what you were saying and the syntax in your own post and ask you not to loose your vitrol on me, you have attacked me personally, made snide comments and literally told me you hope it rains on my parade).

#3-I have no control over what other posters write. Just as I didn’t delete the orignial comment (which I well could have as I disagreed with it totally) or this one, I also didn’t delete the one where Vick made the butt kicking comment. Also in all fairness, that was from my very protective sister who just got back (as in mere weeks ago) from a year in a war zone where she was stationed with the Special Forces as a Psy Ops soldier-so butt kicking is on her mind.

#4-If you don’t like the comments, the tone, the content, the spelling or the grammar of my blog you are perfectly welcome to not read it. The Blogosphere is a large place and there are plenty of other places to go.

This is my last comment on the subject. I hope that the rest of my readers abide by my wishes and let the matter drop here.
