Kids Eat Free

May 12, 2006 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 6 Comments

DH and I went out for dinner a few weeks ago before attending a dance held by the American Legion in Norwich. We tried a steakhouse called Gus’s that was only a few minutes away from the Legion Hall. Gus’s only opened last summer, and since we don’t eat out often this was the first time we had been inside. I noticed while we were there that a big add on the menu stated “Kids eat FREE on Sundays.”

Hmmm, kids eat free. I just love seeing the word Free! That could be a dangerous phrase if it causes you to eat out more frequently than you had planned. However, if you plan on eating out anyway, kids eat free could be a big savings.

This started me thinking-how many places locally offer some sort of free or discounted day for children? My grand plan is to take the phone book one afternoon and start calling around. Since it may be a while before I have the time, and the child free quiet, to do that I decided to check with trusty old Google.

Low and behold, there are a few resources online that look pretty good. There is a website titled “Kids Eat Free” and another called “Kidz R Free“. The Single Parent site at About.com also has a nice article with several resources on children eating free.

So, if you are planning on eating out anyway, take a few minutes and see who in your area has a kids eat free policy.

And if you are from the local Binghamton/Norwich area and would like for me to go through the phone book and make a comprehensive list to post, please leave a comment and let me know. If I get enough requests, I’ll do it!

Jenn, it looks like part of your post vanished. It ends with…’and another called”

    And no more.

My youngest is 16 so I miss the ‘Kids Eat Free’ thing, LOL!

I have a question for you. Over at “Money and Values” you said you make pizza dough with your bread machine. I was wondering…can you freeze the dough for future use?

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Blogger ate part of my post. Darn it. Now i’ve got to look up the link again. I’ll fix it later.

For the pizza crust-I usually make mine in the bread machine, roll it out then parbake it in a 350 oven for 15 min, then freeze it. Then to make the pizza I just top the frozen crust and put in a 425 oven for about 12 min.

I would assume if you froze the dough that would work too, I’ve just never tried it.

You can freeze pizza dough. Check out the family recipe under the title “Dad’s Pizza”

    Hi –

I’ve made pizza dough with my KitchenAid to freeze. Jenn’s way works better for quick pizzas. It does work frozen in balls though. It takes overnight to thaw in the fridge (the yeast will die if you go any faster). Side note – if you’re needing something sweet – a thawed ball of pizza dough, rolled out, covered with cinnamon, sugar into a log and baked makes great quick, cheap cinnamon rolls!
