I am going raspberry picking at a U Pick farm today. I just love raspberries! Love. Love. Love.
And yet, I NEVER buy fresh raspberries in the store. Having grown up with a huge patch at our home (and I mean the patch was bigger than most folks living rooms) I got to gorge myself on them every summer growing up-without paying a cent. It spoiled me for life-I just can’t bear to pay the exorbitant prices in stores for the minuscule box of berries.
And yet I love them so much-so this year I planted 10 raspberry canes in our back yard. Unfortunately they don’t bear the first year. š
I love them so much that I am actually willing to go to a U-pick place. . . with 2 kids. . . an spend probably too much money for the honor of picking them. Then again, compared to the price at the store, maybe it isn’t too much money.
Hmmm, we’ll see. Look for a post by the end of the day on whether it was a frugal endeavor or not.

I picked 2 qt. of red raspberries on Mon. morning for $3.25/qt. To buy them already picked it was $7.50/qt. I also picked black cherries last week for $1.25/lb. and blueberries for $1.65/lb. It was fun! Rita

Our strawberry U-Picks are still open here, we are behind you for sure. I don’t like picking raspberries as much since they are smaller… but they do have varieties these days that are huge!
How much did you actually pick?
And how much were they a pound? Around here they are about $2/lb.

We went U-picking last week and the farm had raspberries, strawberries (on the wane), blackberries, AND blueberries! It was our daughter’s first berry-picking experience and the four types of berries were a big selling point. It was also nice not to have to cash in the retirement annuity to pay for them… much to our surprise, we had about 5 pounds of berries and we paid less than $8 total!

You can pick wildberries just about anywhere. They are just ,as good in jams and jellies. What is the next food topic coming up? Daphne

Rita-these were $1.79 a pound.
Sharon-I was spoiled growing up w/Maine wild blueberries. The big cultivated ones just aren’t the same.
Canadian Saver-I picked about 22 lbs. Ridiculous eh?
Jerry-that sounds fabu!
Daphne-I do pick wild blackberries and blueberries-but noone I know has raspberries.
