Today for all those local readers I wanted to write about the Pumpkin Festival in Norwich NY. Serendipity interviened! While I was googling for a link, I happened upon this website called “YES!-Safe Choices for Kids” sponsored by Senator Libious. The quote from the website says:
“YES!, formerly called YESCAP, remains a unique drug and alcohol prevention program that works to educate the young people of our area about the dangers of substance abuse and offers fun and safe activities for families to spend quality time together.”
Looks like an interesting website to keep your eyes on for fun, free, family oriented activities in the area! It came up on my search for the pumpkin festival because they are going to have a tent with free children’s activities there.
Back to the Pumpkin Festival-the town of Norwich NY has been trying to break the Guiness Book of World Records for the most jack-o-lanterns. Last year they assembled 5,547. Going up and seeing them all lit is amazing! Plus there are the typical booths full of “fair” food for sale, a stage with live music, tents with activities etc. There are free haunted houses this year at both the YMCA and the Chenango Council for the Arts bulding (one for 6 grade and under, one for 7th grade and up at different times) magic shows, clowns etc. And, of course, it is free. Get the schedule of events here. Parking is a bit of a pain, and it is all outdoors, so dress everyone warmly this year!
