I (like many) am a big thrift store shopper. I have found that rather than go to many of them (I live in a good sized city) I have found my favorite one and have learned to milk it for all its worth. The one I frequent has everything sorted by clothing type and then by size. They have all items in different areas of the store so it is easy to just look at furniture or just look for baby shoes or note cards or craft items, etc, etc, etc. They have dressing rooms with mirrors. I love the fact that I can be in and out and still feel fairly confident that I have not left any “have to have its” behind. This tip saves me time, saves me gas money and best of all saves me money…did I mention that this store puts EVERYTHING in the store half off every weekend. I’ve shopped the rest and now patronize the best (at least the best for me).
This is really my way of life and clothes shopping, however I must add one note of exception. When in the area and you feel a strong pull it is worth stopping at a new store….I was running errands and drove past a store I haven’t been in for years. I just kept feeling like I should stop, so I did. I ended up finding my wedding dress for $40. It is very new, in great condition and only needs a few alterations to be ready for me in November! I love being a frugal girl 🙂

Jenn,
What great tips you and your readers have! I’m just getting into this frugal thing (well making a more or an effort to in order to pay off student loans early)…but I just have one major weakness: I LOVE to eat out, both to meet up with friends and just to get some alone time with my hubby. I’d love to read some posts on ideas for how to fit dining out into frugality without ditching it all together. (for example, my husband and I love to go to Boston Market and split a 1/2 chicken and a drink: total $8.50).
That’s an awesome story about the wedding dress!
If you go to warehouse clubs you can find cheap meals before ($1.50 and up)shopping. All of these ideas are great. You can also invest in a coupon book such as the Entertainment coupon book for your area or the ones school kids sell for fundraisers for about $10.00. They have buy one get one free deals and all kinds of free good stuff too. You can also invest in a Sunday paper for good eating out coupons. You can print coupons off of sights and find coupons at the sight for the place you want to go. This is a great sight. Thanks for all of the information. Annette
