Do you remember where you were? I was at work, in the Army still, and Princess was a baby. Someone came in my office and told me that a plane had hit the world trade center (at that point noone knew if it was an accident or not). The post was immediately locked down with 100% vehicle searches. Yankee Bill was off post paying a ticket, and it took him over 3 hours to drive the 2 miles back onto post.

I was a contractor with the Air Force. We were sent home and the base was locked down. We stayed away until the following Monday. I went home and pretended to work from home. But I was unable to turn off the TV.
It was very difficult getting on base for the next 6 months to a year.
I was working- in my usual cubical world.
I was trolling around My Yahoo and saw some of the headlines and got a good link to a bulletin board discussing the news and some folks were able to post pictures. It was the only way we had to get outside news in my section of this building (radios can’t play- the walls are too dense or something & of course, no tvs). People swarmed my desk to see what was happening.
By 10:30 or so, I was freaked out pretty bad- especially realizing that our downtown had heightened police around the building where my 2 year old daughter (at the time) attended daycare — it had two towers to it. I pulled her from daycare and went home and just held her.
My life partner was in an all day meeting and didn’t even know what had happened until I finally got a hold of her and told her that the baby & I were home and I was freaking out from not getting her all day.
I’m just somewhat overreactive at times, and 9/11 was one of those days…
I was sitting in a hotel room in Las Vegas, ready to leave for the airport to come home. We got to the airport and were told all airports had been shut down. This was five minutes AFTER we returned our rental car. We were stuck in Vegas for five days, not a fun time to be there. My son was in NYC and getting in touch with him was more than difficult, my daughter and grandson were home…where i very much wanted to be. I remember laying in bed in the hotel room for two days watching the news and crying.
I remember I was at home! I was watching tv and talking on the phone with my mom when they announced a plane had hit the towers. I remember watching the second plane hit the tower live ! My mom and I both did not even know what to say but we knew what had happened! I was going to college and remember having a candlelight vigil that night! It is a day I will never forget!
I was guarding chemicals and buildings for a large manufacturer to prevent any possible crimes and working in law enforcement. Annette 911 we will never forget what a terrible tragedy. I hope something like that never happens again. I worked much harder after this happened.
Another good discount shop to shop at if you like real nice stuff and at a good price is Teusday Morning. Good luck to all. Annette
Thank you all for sharing your stories.
I was walking up Washington St. (this street runs perpendicular to the South Tower) looking at the North Tower on fire thinking wow that’s a big fire and about stopping at the farmer’s market to buy apple cider donuts when the second plane hit. After hiding in a doorway to get away from the blow-back debris I decided to go home. I was on the Brooklyn bridge when I heard the Pentagon was hit and then a few minutes later the first Tower fell.
I eventually made it home and hid under the covers for two days.
I was driving to school and thought it was NOT a funny joke for the morning show on the radio … until I realized it was real. How UNREAL. I was scared for my sister and family who were in DC and NY. I still get very choked up and emotional when seeing or thinking about all that was lost that day.
