Saving Money on Printer Cartridges

February 7, 2006 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 4 Comments

Where do you buy your printer cartridges? Have you tried buying them online? I am sure that there are tons of places you can buy them, but the one that I use is called 123inkjets.com. (If you have Mypoints, you can get points for the order too!) Don’t be fooled by the name-they sell toner cartridges for laser printers, ribbons etc as well.

Today I placed my second order with them. I get email coupons from them, and I got one for 25% off any order, and they always have free shipping. The cartridges for my printer were $4.95 for one, $3.95 for 2-3 and $2.95 for 4 or more. Because we will go through them eventually and I have the money to do it, I bought 4 of each kind to get the cheapest price. With my 25% off coupon and free shipping it came to $35.40 for 16 cartridges, or $2.40 each.

At Walmart.com just ONE of the cartridges costs over $10-so a minimum $7.60 savings per cartridge. So on my order of 16 I saved over $120 dollars. Even if I had just bought one cartridge at the higher price of $4.95, I still would have saved $5 each.

Thanks for the link to the printer cartridge site. I just got a Lexmark all-in-one, so it will be nice to be able to replace ink without cutting off my arm to pay for it. I had an HP and those babies were about $30 each!
And free shipping is just my speed!

Finally an alternative to refill kits. Don’t ever try those home refill kits. They messed up our printer. Good thing it was already old.

Last I saw, lexmark was cracking down on non-lexmark carts, so you may not be in luck. I stick with canon and epson printers – good quality, you can find cheap replacement carts, and the color carts are usually 3 separate ones so you don’t have to replace it when you run out of only one color.
