I’m asking for even more help here today. I’ve been thinking for several months that I’d like to start a second blog where I can talk about things other than frugality. Since this blog is specifically about frugality I really try to keep it pretty tightly to that topic. However I have found that I frequently have things I’d like to say about child rearing, today’s hectic schedules, religion, relationships, non-frugal ideas, crafts and hobbies–basically on a lot of things. I guess once you get used to writing you just want to keep on doing it!
Believe it or not, the hardest thing about the concept is coming up with a name for a blog. I picked the name for this one in about 10 minutes. Since I had a very specific topic it really narrowed down my choices. But with a wider “mommy-blog” “life-blog” type of topic I am finding it very hard to nail down a name. The ones I really like the best are, of course, already taken.
So after some searching (to ensure no duplication) and some thought over the last couple of weeks, here are a few ideas I’ve come up with.
I’d love to hear any thoughts and/or suggestions, both on the idea of a second blog and the actual names. If you’ve thought of a great name that I could use, please throw that in as well!
Without further ado, and not in a particular order, here we go with some names:
Jenn-I-Fuzz– – – – Yankee Bill’s nickname for me
The Stage Door
My Life, Backstage– – – -Both reference to my involvement in Theatre, but also the way things look different when viewed from backstage as opposed to from the audience-backstage (or coming in through the stage door) you see all the chaos and scrambling, as well as the way that the sets and costumes don’t look as pretty from the back or close up as they do to the audience when out under the lights
Making Life Work– – – -pretty self explanatory
Jenn Upstate– – – -Boring, but ties the two blog names together
The Rest of My Life
Beyond Frugal Upstate– – – -Both of these refer to the fact that this is the rest of my life beyond what I write about on Frugal Upstate. “The rest of my life” can also refer to this being my life after the military, then after each major life change “life after the kids go to school” “Life after we retire” etc etc etc.
Household 6
Household Six–In the Army the commander of any military unit goes by the call sign of “6” on the radio-so for example if you were the B company commander on the radio you would be “Bravo 6”. If your battalion is the “muleskinners” the Battalion Commander is “Muleskinner 6”. So many Army husbands refer to their wives semi-jokingly as “Household 6”, as a sort of wink and nod to the fact that mama is in charge 🙂 (they do actually use this in conversation, as in “I’ll have to ask Household 6 about that and see if I can get a kitchen pass to go to the game with you guys”. The only thing that might be confusing to folks who actually know about the Army is that I am no longer in the Army.
Jenn on Life-Boring, but understandable, and surprisingly not taken.
Jenn’s Bully Pulpit
My Bully Pulpit
On a Soapbox
My Soapbox
Jenn’s Soapbox
Spouting Off– – – -well, that’s what it really is, just my little forum for spouting off on whatever I like
So, HELP!

I like keeping the “upstate” theme… but I also like the “backstage” reference.
Frugal Upstate; Backstage
Backstage at Frugal Upstate
just my 2 cents
love you

I like Jenn-I-Fuzz just ’cause it’s funny. I like Jenn’s Soapbox and Beyond Frugal Upstate, too. Whatever you call it…sign me up!
What about Upstate 6? I like the Household 6, since you are the commander. I also like mom2fur’s suggestion of Beyound Frugal Upstate–that would give you free reign to talk about whatever you would like.
Have you seen the Hillbily Housewife website? Check it out if you haven’t. It has a great lunchbox page!
Can’t wait to read your nonfrugal musings.
I like “Beyond Frugal Upstate” but I also like what Amanda suggested “Backstage at Frugal Upstate”.
I enjoy your writing a whole lot. So, I am already looking forward to your next blog.
I started one in my own language just recently and am thinking of starting another one in English. First I would like to see, if I can commit to writing. I am an avid reader but I guess not much of a reader.
Take care,
T’Pol
Upstate 6, Household 6 and My Life, Backstage are my three favorites. I know the first wasn’t your suggestion, but it fits well with your theme. I did not know about “6s,” but really like the story!
Hi Jenn,
“the stage door” is actually the name of a broadway play from a while ago, with the same idea; Life in a NYC rooming house filled with wannabe actresses of varying degrees of success.
I like backstage at Frugal upstate. It conveys the idea. Of course, then you run into people who think it is just a theater blog, just like household 6 might get a bunch of people who think it is an army spouse blog….
I like the idea of connecting the two with the “upstate” idea.
I like the backstage theme idea, really any variation of it. So excited for another blog I have to read (I don’t spend enough time on the computer:) Good luck!
I think you should stay with one blog and rename it “Frugal Upstate and More” or something along those lines. If you have 2 you won’t have time to post very often on either one.
I think “backstage at Frugal Upstate” will be perfect. Tying the two together is like blog branding!
I also think your idea of splitting the two blogs is a good one.
I love the Household Six idea but if you took that name I would think it should be more geared towards military stuff. I know it doesn’t HAVE to be… but it is a military joke term. But I DO know someone who’s looking hard for a good blog name… perhaps you’d share it?

Well, I think my vote(s) go to Spouting Off and The Rest of My Life. I like the idea of you having a more personal blog too. I really enjoy the Frugal items, but I’d like to hear more about your life and family.
I clicked on “comments” intending to say I’d like a title that incorporated the “My Life, Backstage” and “Upstate” ideas. I was surprised to see that Amanda had already made almost the same comment that I had in mind. I lived in upstate NY for many years though I’m now further south, and the “upstate” part of your frugal blog very much caught my eye when I saw it on the blogroll of another site about personal finance.
Hmm… making me wish I’d thought about tying my two titles together!
I agree with the others I like the combining backstage with upstate.
Can’t wait to see what else you have to say!
I like the suggestion of Backstage at Frugal Upstate and I also like your idea of Beyond Frugal Upstate. I like the way the two blogs would be tied together, but separate of each other.
I LOVE Household 6, but I agree that it would probably be more appropriate for somebody who’s still in the military. What a great story, though.
Backstage at Frugal Upstate or Beyond Frugal Upstate are tied for #2 with me.
Thanks for all the thoughts-and feel free to weigh in on this issue if you haven’t yet.
So far it is looking like a very strong case for having a tie in with the name “Frugal Upstate”-sort of a branding issue (hey look mom, I’m a brand!). I like Backstage at Frugal Upstate, but am worried that it may confuse some folks who may expect it to be heavily theatre related. Beyond Frugal Upstate is good too.
I’ll keep mulling over. . .
Oh, and noone snag Household 6-My sister Vick is taking Dibs on that one! (It may be a while before she starts posting, but I’ll let you all know when she does-she’s a great writer)
