Works for Me Wednesday

May 17, 2006 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 18 Comments

I was introduced to a neat little feature in the last few weeks by Meredith over at “Like Merchant Ships” and by the Family CEO. It is called “Works for Me Wednesdays” and it was started by Shannon at “Rocks in My Dryer“. Every Wednesday folks do a short entry on their blog about a little organizational type tip that helps make their life run smoother. It doesn’t have to be earth shattering, it just has to “Work” for me.

So for my first Wednesday-I’m going to talk about a neat little tips for your bed sheets. I read this one somewhere, although I can’t remember where. I don’t keep my sheets/linens for all the beds in the linen closet anymore. I bought an underbed storage box for each bed, and the clean, folded sheets for each bed are kept right under the bed.

Viola! When you need to change the sheets everything is right there. The box fits fine-most of us just have empty space under our beds, and it freed up prime real estate in the closet for other things. It “Works for Me”!

This is a fantastic idea! I never have enough closet space for sheets, so this would be a huge saver!

Great idea…I tried to do this under our Master Bedroom bed but the storage bins are too high. But I never thought about it for my girls rooms. I usually stored toys under there. But now that we have a playroom and only ONE linen closet. So I think I’ll be implementing this idea! Welcome to the WFMW!

That is a good idea and it saves the space in the linen closet for other things. Actually I usually have a Sam Cody under my bed but there is room enough for both.

It must be karma that I came here today (sorry, I don’t visit every day). I am making my weekly trip to the store tonight, so I can add those storage containers to my list. My sheets/linens have been on the floor in my hallway for nearly two weeks. I started reorganizing the hall linen/towel/bathroom closet and never finished. Thanks!

Great idea! And it frees up precious space in the linen closet for…other stuff.

I really like this idea. I have heard of laying the extra set under the mattress too.

Awesome idea! One of these days I will have to buy some extra sheets. Taking them off, washing, drying and putting back on in the same day can be a drag… 🙂

THAT is a terrific tip! I already do that with the sheets for my youngest’s bed (they’re in the tippy-top drawer of his tall dresser, which he can’t reach, so it’s not good for clothes). Ooo, think of all the linen-closet space I can make!

I like this idea too, only I couldn’t find the right size of storage box for the low clearance under my futon bed. So instead, I went to the thrift store and bought a used garment bag just the right width to fit (I use it folded out with the nylon zippered side up). It holds a lot of bedding, is tough and durable, looks nice under the bed (I got a tweed one), satisfies my frugality and environmental ethic since it’s recycled, and I can use it as a garment bag if I ever need one.
