OK, I can’t claim the brilliance on this one, but it is such a nifty, convenient and frugal idea that I’m adopting it as my own.

Recently we had Princess’s “Graduation” from nursery school BBQ. Each of the parents brought a dish to pass. One parent (I don’t even know who) brought deviled eggs.
Here’s the brillian part-when they made the eggs they had cut them across the short way, then they had washed up styrofoam egg cartons from the store and repackaged the finished eggs back into the egg cartoons for transport and serving. How brilliant is that? Of course you need twice as many egg cartons as original eggs (since each one makes 2) but that is easy to remedy by saving a couple. Since eggs are pretty inexpensive-I can get a dozen large at Aldi’s for $.89-I’ll be bringing a lot of these little suckers to BBQ’s and potlucks this summer. Now I can transport them easily in a free container, and just throw it away when I’m done-Works for me!

Egg cartons are recyclable, even with smudges of food on them, don’t throw them away.
This is also one of my favorite frugal potluck dishes. Never thought to use the cartons again though. Zip up your eggs a bit by adding horseradish to the yolks!
Well, I recycle the cardboard ones when I happen to get those. I didn’t think that styrofoam was recycleable.
Cool idea!
Great idea! Thanks for the tip. I just carried two platters of the slippery, sliding things a couple of weeks ago. I’m gonna remember this one. Thanks.
This would also work at home if you make the eggs to have with dinner. They can sit safely in the fridge–and maybe no one will snitch them because they don’t know what’s really in those egg cartons!
I love this idea! I make deviled eggs all the time and I love that they are so inexpensive and such a crowd pleaser. This way of transporting them makes so much sense!
Thanks!
That would have been MY great idea, Jenn!
That is a great idea! Now I can stop coveting one of those plates with the little shallow dips to keep the eggs from sliding around!
Mrs. Warren-See, I knew you were artistic and talented, but I didn’t know you were brilliant too!!!
I am a woman of many hidden talents. š “Hi” to Princess!
My dad uses an icing bag that he got at a garage sale to fill the eggs. You can just use a ziploc with the corner cut out though. The icing tips do make it look all pretty though, and it’s neater than flinging the mix with a spoon.
Great idea! Cuts down on storing those plastic egg carriers that you can buy. I will definitely start saving these cartons! They make the perfect snack! Thanks for the idea!
It’s always a good idea to wash the cartons well. You never know what germs could be lurking around your styrofoam.
