Ability to reserve movies from the comfort of home before driving/walking/biking to the Redbox video machine thingy to pick it up.
I’ve already downgraded my Netflix account to one video at a time, and am considering ditching it all together. The only thing stopping me is the ability on Netflix to watch TV series that have been released on DVD. I am currently in the 7th season of Little House on the Prairie, and when that is done I need to start in on Season 2 of the new Dr. Who.

**Note:I find that for long trips when you really don’t want to hear whining from little people it is imperative to have NEW movies that they have never seen before, rather than the same old ones we watch at home. A new movie will totally absorb their attention-one they’ve seen before can be fought through. Of course when they were toddlers repetition reigned supreme. . . Bonus un-frugality related parenting note-we only put the DVD player in the car for long trips. Otherwise it lives in the guest bedroom closet. My feeling is that if they were to watch it all the time while driving around town etc it would lose it’s novelty value and thus it’s ability to completely engross them when I really need it to. Ditto with watching TV at home. The more rare it is (and my kids do watch about 2 hours a day-so I’m not perfect or anything) the more it seems to distract them when it’s on.
I’m still a Netflix fan, but Redbox seems like a good deal, too.

I have not tried Redbox yet, but I’ve seen them all over the place. You are allowed to drop them off at any redbox location? We just upped our membership for Netflix as all the kids are home and have a long list of movies they would like to see. Once school starts again, we will put our account on “hold”. I do like the tv series on dvd…no commercials! The last one I watched was Northern Exposure…
Amen to Redbox! They’ve been our savior this summer…evening tv is horrible right now. And I’m SO excited to learn about the free Monday codes AND the ability to drop them off at other Red Box locations. I had no idea!!!

Thank you so much for the mention, Jenn! We dropped our Netflix and rely on the Netflix and our local library for our movie rentals. Sometimes they have free codes on Wed. too, but I have only see a couple of those. I try to always post those Monday codes though- you can’t beat it!!
