Princess Lunchbox Report 10-7-06

November 7, 2006 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 3 Comments

Breakfast snack was a banana and some Kool Aid (again, still using that jar of orange flavored stuff I bought for the Dreamsicle cookies. . . don’t you just hate buying an ingredient only to use a little bit of it in the recipe. . . . )

I decided to get creative with the lunch today. I gave her a bunch of little containers with the ingredients to make her own mini pizzas. One had Ritz style crackers, another cheese, another had pepperoni and finally one with spaghetti sauce (oh, her teacher is just going to LOVE me). I included a small paper plate left over from Buddy’s birthday party, a couple of napkins, and a couple of spoons. We’ll see what the review is when she gets home.

I also sent in a small container of fruit cocktail with some pomegranite seeds mixed in. I had gotten curious and bought a couple of pomegranites the other day (2 for $5 – not exactly cheap, but I like to try new things sometimes.) I envicerated them and got all the seeds out, rinsed them off and sealed them into a jar with my vacuum sealer. Buddy has refused to try them, but Princess tells me that they are the best fruit ever (probably because they are small and red-color is very important, almost more important than taste. . . )

The drink was Kool Aid again. Funny story, Princess insisted on doing a taste test of both containers of Kool Aid this morning to ensure that I had put enough drink powder in. “This one needs a little bit more powder” “This one is perfect”. I think I’ve got a budding food critic on my hands!!!

Well… there is nothing worse than too watery Kool-Aid or too strong Kool-Aid. It’s funny, though b/c I can’t stand drinks that are too strong. I always dilute my C.Light to about 1/2 strength…. I also got used to diluting my juice (TC started me on it); OJ, Grapefruit, apple etc. I just like it better that way… and it does make it last longer. More Frugal.

You are so creative with her lunches! Nathan gets PB&J when he takes his lunch and alternate all the other items. I’m sure he’s pretty sick of it…you’re a good Mom!
