Even though it is gray and dreary here today, here in Upstate NY we are finally into true spring. (Although that’s what we thought two weeks ago and then we got 11 inches of snow. No, no, we must think positive. It is after all the end of April.)
My thoughts are turned to warm weather, and with warm weather comes cold drinks. Lemonade can be made inexpensively and much more healthily from scratch. (Who knows what exactly is in those little packets?-I like the fact that I know exactly what is an item when I make it)

Homemade Lemonade
1 cup lemon juice
1 cup sugar
1/2 gallon pitcher
Water
Mix lemon juice and sugar in pitcher. Fill the pitcher with water and you are done!
Alternately you can put the sugar and about a cup of water in the microwave for 2 or 3 minutes to make sure all the sugar is dissolved, pour in the pitcher and add ice and water.
This recipe can have the sugar adjusted to your taste, you can use alternative sweeteners (Splenda etc) or even Honey.
Try starting your family on full strength and slowly decrease the amount of sugar in each batch until you are only using half as much. Here’s to stealth health! They will never know what hit them!

Funny we made the exact same thing yesterday! Spring is in the air! 🙂
We like to make in Lemon/Limeade sometimes too. Using half lemon juice and half lime.
Ooooh, yummy! I’m gonna try this one. I’ve been making Kool-Aid lately, the kind you mix with sugar. I keep meaning to calculate the cost of making it this way to compare it to soda or sugar-in-it Kool-Aid. We like ours a little ‘lighter’ anyway, so I use less sugar than it calls for.
A hint…sugar dissolves better in hot water. I combine the mix and sugar with a very small amount (maybe a half cup) of the hottest tap water possible to make a ‘syrup.’ Then I finish off with cold water.
