Yeah, not so great.
I mean it was ok, but I had expected the hoisin sauce to mix with the chicken juices and make more of a sauce. . . . instead it just sort of sat on the top. The chicken tasted mostly like chicken, and not much of the sauce at all.
I guess I was just expecting more flavor. Foil packet idea-good, particular recipe-not as good. Next time I’ll marinate the chicken first.

Sorry your dish didn’t turn out as you’d hoped. ๐
I find that I get more flavor when the chicken is cut up and cooked in a sauce. Maybe try that next time? Or plan an extra batch of sauce on the stove.
I’ve had this same problem with chicken packets. I make foil packets in bulk batches and freeze them for when I need quickie meals and have found that white wine seems to do the best. I take our left-over or just buy a cheap but ok bottle and freeze it in an ice cube tray and then pop it in the top of the packets. The wine never gets totally hard because of the alcohol content but it gets enough ice crystals taht you don’t have to worry about it leaking out the bottom of the packet while you assemble.
Recipes that don’t come out as hoped are so disappointing, eh? I recently had the experience with a veggie curry. It just didn’t taste the way I expected – more blah.
I’m looking forward to trying the cabbage casserole, myself. I’ve never heard of such a thing but now that I see it on your menu plan it’s a duh moment – I adore stuffed cabbage but hate making it.
Mrs W-Little pieces would have had more flavor-but marinating would be even better. Oh well, live and learn.
Becky-that wine thing is a great idea!
Marsha-I’m my own worse critic when it comes to cooking. YB always tells me it tastes fine while I sit there and dissect what would make it taste better.-Oh, and the cabbage roll casserole is a great time saver! There are crock pot recipes out there too.
