Ok, I could have sworn I had posted this recipe before, but can’t seem to find it now! I use this recipe a lot in the winter. Not only is it very quick and easy to put together-but because of the “low & slow” method of cooking you can use a very cheap cut of meat & still have it come out tender & flavorful.
Ridiculously Easy Crock Pot Roast
1 Roast
1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 pkg Onion Soup mix
Place roast in a crock pot.
Pour Cream of Mushroom soup on top of roast.
Sprinkle Onion Soup Mix over all.
Cover crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
See? Even someone with zero cooking talent can manage this one!
Variations:
Use any kind of roast or meat: Chicken, Beef, Venison etc.
Use any kind of “cream of” soup you like.
Use a homemade “cream of” soup instead of buying at the store.
Use some beef bullion powder & dried minced onions instead of the onion soup mix.
Add carrots, potatoes, celery or any other veggie that sounds good to you and let cook along with the roast.

We make this all the time; it’s especially good with rump roast when you catch it on sale. We eat it the first night with mashed potatoes, then mix the leftover meat and broth with egg noodles for a quick second dinner + leftovers for lunches.
Just a little hint: if you’re making it with the canned soup and powdered soup mix, don’t salt the meat. Yes, we learned it the hard way!

My family has been eating that roast recipe forever!
We love to stick that in….and come home to the wonderful smells of our house.
A delicious bonding meal! For sure!

My mom always made the crock pot roast with Campbell’s Golden Mushroom and French Onion soups. Talk about the best gravy!!! I love to add seasonings as well…garlic, salt, pepper, and Tony Chachere’s.

Nice simple recipe. Pot Roast and a hearty side dish is my favorite type of meal. When making pot roasts for dinner, I would recommend trying grass fed Black Angus beef. It is absolutely delicious and a healthier option. I work with La Cense Beef and because our beef is 100% grass fed it is higher in omega 3 acids and lower in calorie and fat as opposed to traditional grain fed beef. Try grass fed Black Angus Beef and you will be able to taste an even bigger difference!

Kara-thanks for the ideas, but I have to say that grass fed black angus beef is way out of the price range of most frugal folks. Unless of course they raise grass fed black angus beef-then they might be able to afford it 😉

I was so glad I came across your recipe online the other evening. I normally make my roast with a can of coke and an envelope of onion soup mix. However this time I was craving the roast with potatoes, carrots and gravy. I remember growing up and on Sundays my mom would put the roast in the oven, low and slow, while we went to church and we would come home to a great lunch. Your recipe brought back all those memories. I can’t wait to do this again, thank you!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it Meg, and that it brought back so many good memories! I love how simple it is–it really truly is ridiculously easy 😉

I make this too! It’s nice because I can use cheaper cuts and they melt after being in a slow cooker. As I work at a supermarket I found it helps to know when your meat department puts out their products nearing the expiration date. The meat managers usually want to get it sold so as to make some profit. I have saved as much as $5 on family packages of meat that I can use for a few meals. I’ve even gotten store markdown coupons on large roasts that the meat counter will cut up for me free of charge!
