A Sweet Smelling Home for the Holidays

It’s amazing how strongly smell can be tied to memory and emotion.  Sometimes you catch a whiff of a certain smell–say the musty pine smell of the forest, or a particular perfume–and it will just pull an entire memory out of the depths of your brain.  Certain smells are tied to emotions–they can bring a feeling of calmness or of happiness and contentment.  I think that’s why so many people enjoy adding scent to their homes–it is such an inexpensive way to make your home feel more welcoming, to add to a feeling of well being or happiness.

At the holidays it seems like we all want our homes to smell like delicious baked goods, but who has the time to be constantly baking (or the waistline that can stand to have all the cakes and cookies you would make).  That’s what makes the new Enchanted Holiday line of home fragrances from Airwick (found at Walmart of course) so fun–any time you want you can get the delicious smell of apple pie, vanilla cupcakes, cookies and more!

Personally I try to keep the number of scents going on in my home to a minimum–I’m a migraine sufferer.  But I do like a little something special around the holidays.  Airwick and Walmart sent me some of their new Holiday line to check out–I’ll be sharing the love by giving away most of it to my local friends now that I’ve checked them out.

Holiday Collection of Scents from Airwick and Walmart

The new Enchanted Holiday Collection has 5 scents:  Mrs. Claus’ Apple Pie, Frosted Vanilla and Cupcake Delight, Evergreen Adventure, Waiting by the Fireside (which is amber, cedarwood & bergamot) and Gingerbread playhouse.  Each scent is available in the oil warmers, candles and the Freshmatic Ultra Air Freshener Dispenser and Spray.

Airwick makes it easy, and safe, to keep the scent going in your home.  The Scented oil warmers are very popular right now–you simply plug them in to your outlet and you get all the scent of a burning candle without any of the flame.  Of course they do have their candles as well for those who prefer the warm flicker of flame.  I think that the candles in their smooth sided jars and with the chrome lids are very classy and attractive.

What I thought was the most interesting was the Freshmatic Ultra Air Freshener Dispenser and Spray.  You open the refillable unit, pop in a couple of batteries, then flip it over and choose your level of scent (it’s actually how often it sprays, but that really winds up being how strong the scent in the room is):

Top setting (large flower): Up to 20 days
2nd setting down (medium flower): Up to 50 days
3rd setting down (small flower): Up to 60 days

So one refill could keep a room smelling great for two months!  The unit is very unobtrusive too–when I put it on my mantle you can barely notice it among my fall decorations.  Can you find it in the photo below?  And do you recognize that Fall Cornucopia with Silk Flowers?

Although as I’ve said, I don’t usually do a lot of fragrance, I do like to have a pine scent in the house while our artificial Christmas tree is up.  I’m going to go out to Walmart and buy a refill of the Evergreen Adventure Holiday Enchantment scent to put into the Freshmatic–then my living room will smell like Christmas all Christmas long!

Do you use Airwick Scents?  Do you have anyone on your Christmas list who might like some of the Holiday Enchantment scents as a gift?
