December is holiday time–and that means it’s also holiday concert time! Yes–that’s right, those of you with kids who sing or play instruments know exactly what I’m talking about. The first concert of the school season is ALWAYS in December and usually has a holiday theme.
It’s a pretty typical thing for a school band and chorus to require the kids to wear “white on top, black on bottom” for the concert. Of course concert season was upon us and Princess didn’t have anything to wear. Despite the fact that I had emphasized to her when we were school shopping that she needed to make sure she had some choices.
That’s ok though–because Walmart asked me to head into my local store and look at the winter clothing selection! I knew I could find the basics in the juniors department. We always have plain white shirts in our store, and black pants are available year round. I had actually put a plain white button down shirt in my cart and was on my way to the register when I saw this pretty lace shirt that I knew Princess would like.

Pretty and basic! Of course it helps when you have a lovely model. Black and white is awfully boring though, so we wanted to add a little pop of color (which our chorus director does allow). In the accessories section of Walmart there were some nice two packs of infinity scarves.
Princess likes red, so I grabbed one that had black and red roses:

As well as a plain red scarf:

Now she has three different looks to choose from for the concert–and any of the outfits would look just fine for church, a dinner out with family or a Christmas party as well. And of course mix the shirt with come jeans and a necklace, or the black pants with a colorful sweater. . . well, they are just items that coordinate with many things in her wardrobe.
Finally for a bit of holiday flare, I couldn’t resist these cute little jingle bell earrings. Mama may have to borrow those. . .

So if you have a school concert in your future and need some basic black and white wardrobe staples for your performer–check out your local Walmart! Mine always has black dress pants (or black jeans) and white dress shirts in the boys section as well. And of course on line at Walmart.com you can find even more!
