I like to turn projects on their ear. Really. Those of you who read regularly know that I’m always trying to find that unique twist that makes a project different.
This fall when I was down at the Walmart Headquarters with the rest of the Walmart Moms for our “Holiday Trip” (Holiday in retail/marketing starts in the early fall) we had the chance to play with a bunch of the craft aisle offerings. It’s actually one of my favorite parts of the trip–an excuse to play and make crafts for 45 min or so.
There were just piles of craft materials and several “inspiration boards” with project ideas. One that caught my eye was a fall “creepy tree” decoration that was made out of twisted pipe cleaners. It looked kind of like these trees I found at Play Trains: Fall Pom Pom Tree . . . except without the big colored pom poms, just the tree trunk and branches.
Well–I looked around at the supplies and thought “Hmmm, I wonder how this would look twisted out of that craft wire”. So I grabbed two spools and went to town. . . That’s me inthe black and yellow shirt holding the wire 🙂

I took that craft wire, cut it into long section and twisted, and twisted, and split into smaller sections and twisted those back on themselves to make a tree shape. Then for extra fun I wired some jingle bells on to the ends. It came out pretty cute:

This holiday season, why not take a little break for yourself and make a little craft–just something fun that doesn’t have to be perfect. There are plenty of cool supplies and inspiration to be found at the Walmart Craft Aisle (and over in the fabric section as well!). You could make a fall pom pom tree or a jingle bell candy cane tree out of pipe cleaners (also known as fuzzy sticks or even go a little nuts with a couple of spools of wire like I did.
