Had you noticed that there is a new Star Wars movie coming out on December 18th? How cool is that! I always enjoyed the original trilogy (although I wasn’t a fanatic)–and I tried to enjoy episodes 1-3. Somehow those were harder to get into–I think because you already knew Anakin was going to turn out to be Darth Vader.
But these new ones? This is the story picking up after that original trilogy. What ever happened to Luke? Leia? Hans Solo? As a little girl who grew up playing Leia’s unknown younger sister on the playground (my best friend Liana always got to be Leia, so I had to be her invented sister. . . ), well, you can imagine the appeal!
Just last week, Walmart had a special midnight event to celebrate the launch of all the new products for “Star Wars The Force Awakens”. They asked me to check it out at my local store and tell you all about it. Of course, I didn’t want to go by myself (and school hasn’t started for us yet) so Buddy came along!

There are not a lot of folks at the Vestal NY Walmart at quarter to midnight, let me tell you! I think it was the closest I ever parked to the store! Buddy though it was cool to be up and at the store when almost everyone he knows was home in bed.
Our store had a nice little setup. There were obviously some associates who were quite into it, as they had folks dressed up like Darth Vader, a storm trooper and Boba Fett. There was a big inflatable R2D2, punch, and cupcakes with Star Wars rings on them.

The first of the new merchandise was out as well for folks to look at and buy. We saw several Lego sets including the Star Wars First Order Snow Speeder for $39.92(personally I’m a fan of the Millennium Falcon set), Black Series collectibles including a nice Tie fighter, Star Wars Monopoly, a variety of Light Sabers, a ton of new “The Force Awakens” action figures, some really cool T-shirts and even other merchandise like snack cups.
Since the movie comes out just in time for the holidays, I’m sure that a lot of these items will be big on kids (and big kids–I know a lot of adult hard core fans!) lists.
There is even more great Star Wars related content in the Star Wars section on Walmart.com.  It includes tons of stuff–free printable coloring pages, info on the Walmart EXCLUSIVE Galatic Connextions trading disc game and giveaway, info on how to throw a Star Wars viewing party. . . even a Covergirl Star Wars Collection Makeover guide!
And now, to wet your whistle for the movie just a bit more. . . .
