Here’s a fun dessert perfect for New Years Eve or you next party of any kind–Dessert Shooters!
Have you seen these petite sized desserts at restaurants over the last few years? It’s a brilliant idea–since these desserts are just a few bites in size people can order one with less guilt. If you can’t make up your mind between two desserts you can always get a couple and you are still eating less than your average slice of cake or pie!
Walmart asked me to share a dessert for the holidays, and I’ve been dying to try dessert shooters at home. Never one content to do things the easy way, I didn’t make just one kind of shooter–I decided to give you all a way to make a whole bunch of mix and match shooters! That’s right–with just a few types of ingredients you can make a ton of different shooters–so you can have plenty for your guests to choose from!
Shooters need some sort of base/crust, at least one filling and a topping. That’s the basic formula: base + filling + topping = shooter
To make it mix and match I chose 3 crusts items (Graham Cracker Crumbs, Sandwich Cookies and Walmart Bakery Pound Cake); three filling items (Lemon Pie Filling, Strawberry Rhubarb Filling, and Walmart’s Great Value No Bake Cheesecake); and three toppings (Walmart’s Great Value Whipped Cream, Maraschino Cherries and Chocolate Syrup).
Of course before you can make shooters, you need shooter glasses. Walmart has some really great holiday time disposable serving-ware this year–and I found these sets of 10 mini cordial glasses for $2.97. They are acrylic–so you can wash them out and reuse them. It was super inexpensive to pick up a couple of sets to make shooters in.
I made up the no bake cheesecake mix, divided it in half and mixed chocolate syrup with half of it to make chocolate cheesecake filling. I spooned the filling into two Wilton disposable icing bags and cut off the tip (no need to bother with a tip! Alternately you could use a gallon zippered baggie and just cut off one corner). The bags made it easy to put nice neat swirls of filling into the shots without getting any on the sides of the glass.
Then I just went to town making combinations! I found that with my tall narrow shots most of the desserts worked best with two sets of layers– base + filling + topping + base + filling + topping = shooter
For example:
Using this formula and the 9 ingredients I started with, you can mix and match over 16 different shooters!
So head on over to your local Walmart and pick up everything you need to make your own dessert shooters for your next party–New Years or any time!

Yummy. I wish I had seen this before our family snack/dessert get-together. They are awesome. I think I will do this next year. Or maybe for my February Volleyball in the Snow party that I have. Thanks.
(let’s just hope it snows in February)
