I am not a stellar housekeeper. Seriously. I know sometimes a blogger can give the impression of having a perfect life. A perfect house, perfect kids, perfect food. Ha! So not true. For the most part you guys get to see the pretty bits–carefully cleaned, lit and photographed.
The truth is I make time for the things I enjoy and housekeeping isn’t it. As a matter of fact for the last few years things have progressively gotten out of control in the organization aspect of my home, so not only does my house frequently need a good scrubbing, there are typically “piles” to work around as well.
So for the last few years I’ve been getting Buddy (12) and Princess (14) more and more involved in some of the housecleaning. It’s an uphill battle some days!
One of the jobs that ALWAYS needs to be done is sweeping and vacuuming. A dog who seems to blow fur all year long (try this awesome stripping brush from Walmart–when we use it regularly there is an improvement!) and 4 guinea pigs add to the mess. Plus we’ve recently had dust mite allergies diagnosed in two family members. . . Well, it means vacuuming has been steadily moving UP my priority list.
Our house is 90% hardwood flooring (plus some linoleum in the kitchen and bathrooms). The ONLY room with wall to wall carpeting in the entire house is the master bedroom. The kids rooms, den and front parlor all do have large area rugs. Dust, dirt and fur seem to collect around the edges of all the rooms.
Back in May of 2011 Walmart sent me a Dyson Digital Slim to review. At the time I was a bit concerned about the relatively high cost of a stick vacuum–after all, it isn’t like you could use it to vacuum an entire room–it’s really more for touch ups, stairs, corners, the car and such. Plus the run time was only 15 minutes before needing to be charged. That didn’t seem very long.
I am here to tell you today–We LOVE our Dyson Digital Slim. It is July of 2015, and it is still running strong. The Dyson is the first thing the kids grab when I tell them to sweep–they use it to suck up all the dog hair and dust around the edges of the rooms before hitting the middle with the broom. You know–all that fluffy stuff the broom seems to just float around the room. Someone spilled sugar in the kitchen? Grab the Dyson. Clean out the car? Dyson. Clean the stairs? Dyson.
We have had this machine for over 4+ years and it still runs like it’s brand new.
If you break down the cost of the Dyson Slim over the 51 months we’ve owned it, it comes to less than $6 a month. Since I expect it to run for many more years that cost per month will just keep going down!
All of this is a very long intro to explain why I was so excited when Walmart asked me if I’d like to try out the NEW, exclusive to Walmart model–the Dyson V6 Slim Cordless Vacuum.
Here’s the skinny on this newest addition to the awesome Dyson cordless vacuum line:
Dyson V6 Slim Cordless Vacuum–Exclusively at Walmart
- Dyson suction power without the hassle of a cord
- Motorized cleaner head with stiff nylon bristles and soft carbon fiber filaments, it removes ground-in dirt from carpets and fine dust from hard floors
- Powered by the Dyson digital motor V6
- Generates powerful suction to create the most powerful cordless vacuum
- Balanced for floor to ceiling cleaning
- Up to 20 minutes of fade-free suction
- Increased suction for difficult tasks
- Docking station
- Hygienic bin emptying
- Handheld mode
- Click-fit cleaning tools
- Made from the strongest materials available, selected for their durability and lightweight properties
I love that this model has even more suction and 5 minutes longer of run time! It really is well balanced, so it’s easy to use it behind tall items and aiming up high like in the corners of a room. And since my kids are rarely gentle with anything, knowing it’s made with the strongest materials available is a big plus.
While I do use the motorized head to touch up my throw rugs, the accessory I use the most is the combination accessory head–I love that it’s one piece that with the push of a button and a slight slide changes from the bristled brush to the smooth head. This is my go to for spilled dry food or dirt, dog hair, and cobwebs.
Here’s a special little tip for you! Since the Dyson V6 slim only runs when you are pushing on the “trigger”, there is a technique to running it without “finger fatigue”. Your impulse will be to use the tip of your finger to push down. Instead, wrap your whole finger around the trigger so that the space between your first and second knuckle is pushing the trigger–far easier on your hands!
I love my Dyson v6 Slim!
The V6 Slim is on Rollback at Walmart during their Labor Day promotion from 8/23 – 9/12 for $259.
That’s a $30 savings! Don’t forget, you can add a 3 year Walmart Care Plan for just $28.
