Are you familiar with Burt’s Bees? I grew up in Maine, so of course I have been a fan of Burt’s Bees for years and years.
Wait, you don’t know what the Maine connection is? Well Burt’s Bees started in Maine!
“It was the summer of ’84 and Maine artist Roxanne Quimby was thumbing a ride home (back when you could still do that sort of thing). Eventually a bright yellow Datson pickup truck pulled over, and Roxanne instantly recognized Burt Shavitz, a local gentleman whose beard was almost as well-known as his roadside honey stand. They hit it off, and soon Roxanne was making candles with unused wax from Burt’s beehives. “
Here I am, approximately Circa 1984. . . Yup, it’s not summer, but that is Winter in Maine all right–me and my 4 siblings posing with the tree my dad cut on our land just outside of Bangor Maine. (Yes. I’ve met Stephen King. Multiple times. Not that he’d remember that I served him hamburgers at McDonalds or stood behind him in line at the drugstore.) That’s me in the snazzy yellow and orange snowsuit on the right. I have no idea why I have one glove off. . .
Suffice it to say if you are from Maine, you know Burt’s Bees. I always had one of their tinted lip glosses (which came out in the early 90’s) while I was in college at the University of Maine. I still have one in my purse!
It’s always made me smile that I can find my favorite Burt’s Bee’s products at my local Walmart. Go Maine! Anyway–when Walmart asked me to try out some of Burt’s Bee’s Renewal line, and take a 28 day challenge I said yes without even looking checking into the product–and I’m usually quite careful about what I put on my skin. That’s because I knew if it was Burt’s, then it was made with natural products and avoided all the “icky” stuff.
The new Renewal line uses a Hibiscus and Apple Rejuvenating Complex to plump up cells and reduce the look of lines and wrinkles. The products include:
- Firming Day Lotion
- Refining Cleanser
- Firming Night Cream
- Smoothing Eye Cream
- Intensive Firming Serum
So what’s up with the 28 days? Seems like a kind of random time frame, right? Well did you know that your skin completely renews itself every 28 days? That’s why Burt’s Bee’s is hosting a 28 Day Face Cleanse! You just sign up for the 28 Day Face Cleanse , use the Renewal line for 28 days (sharing your progress with the #28DayFaceCleanse hashtag) and you’ll be entered to win a trip for 2 to Kimberly Snyder’s transformation retreat plus many more prizes! The first 5,000 entrants will get a free sample of Renewal Serum.

I chose to pick up some of the Firming Day Lotion. The lotion is infused with wrinkle smoothing white hibiscus, hydrating apple (to plump up cells), and titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for SPF 30.
Now I have to admit–I’ve got good genes when it comes to skin and hair color (no hair dye!). I’m 43 years old and I’ve yet to find a wrinkle (although I’m just beginning some crows feet when I smile–but I’m weird, I’ve always liked those). My mom is 70 and barely has any wrinkles. I thank the Lord and good genetics for my oily Italian skin 🙂 Each morning I just use a small squirt:
It doesn’t look like a lot, but it’s plenty! Just rub it between your palms, then gently over your face. That’s it!
As you can see in my three selfies above, because of my wrinkle free skin there is not a lot of visible difference from using the Renewal Firming Day Lotion for 28 days. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t like it though! I found it to be a very light, refreshing lotion to use, and it did make my skin feel very soft. I particularly like that it has an SPF 30–I spend a lot of time out in the sun during the summer and I need the protection for my skin–but for the last few years I’ve noticed that many lotions with sunscreen irritate my skin. Not the Burt’s Bee’s Renewal Firming Day Lotion! I didn’t have a single problem with it.
If you are looking for a moisturizer with SPF, I highly recommend it!
