Save on Wedding Invitations — with the Walmart Stationery Store

May 15, 2015 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate 1 Comment

Did you know that you can have Wedding Invitations (and all kinds of coordinating Wedding Stationery) printed at Walmart?

Neither did I!  I tell you, I learn so many interesting things by being a part of the Walmart Mom program!

Pretty Sample Wedding Stationary from WalmartYankee Bill and I got married in 1999, but I still remember how expensive everything to do with weddings was.  I can only imagine how much the costs have gone up.

We were very much in love (still are!) and we wanted to have a memorable day to share with our family and friends. . . but we also didn’t want to start our married life out with big red numbers in the “debt” column.  So we were very careful.  To start with we opened a joint account and had a direct deposit going in from each of our paychecks to save up for the wedding. We rented silk flower arrangements in white for the wedding and added in just a few touches in my colors (coral and forest green).  Those flowers on the altar and some big satiny white bows on the pews that I made were the only decorations in the church–churches are quite beautiful on their won.  A friend who had been a florist made my bouquet out of silk flowers as a wedding gift.  I designed the programs myself and had them photocopied.  My dress was purchased new but inexpensively–Yankee Bill wore his formal dress blues.  We paid for good food at the reception, a DJ and a couple of hours of open bar.

And my sister bought my wedding invitations as our gift.

I have no idea what my sister paid for the invitations (that would have been rude to ask) but I’m quite sure they cost more than $.99 each.

Why do I mention $.99?  Because that’s how much you can purchase your wedding invitations for at the Walmart Stationery Store! Walmart asked me to check out their selection online, sent me a sample kit and gave me a $20 credit so I could try out the ordering/personalization process and see the final quality of the items myself.

Variety of wedding invitations available at WalmartNot only are the invitations inexpensive, but they have tons of looks to choose from.  I chose the ones above to show you the wide variety of styles–but that is just a small part of their selection. Each style comes in a couple of colorways, and then when you get into the personalization you can change fonts, colors and of course the actual text.  There is free ground shipping on all orders (of course you can get them faster for additional fees).

Custom Options for Walmart Wedding Stationary

The sample kit came with the two invitations I photographed at the top–one printed on the $.99 Signature Smooth Stock, the other printed on the slightly more expensive Deluxe Eggshell stock (which runs $1.29 per invitation)

Deluxe Eggshell Stock –

It’s not just invitations you can purchase–they have all kinds of Wedding Stationery–Save the Date cards, Response Cards, Place Cards and more:

Coordinate all your wedding stationary at Walmart

Now to place my order I obviously didn’t need wedding invitations, but the stationery can be customized to suit any occasion you like.  Birthday parties, graduations, thank yous, baby showers.  Whatever your imagination can come up with.  I decided to go with a thank you card that we could use for multiple occasions.  Hey–if I’m going to order 20 cards they should be something I can use!

Now these are not folded cards–they are flat cards, more like a postcard.  I chose a sort of artsy nature themed thank you that came in a few colorways.  I chose the green as being the most all purpose (the pink was pretty but not good for the guys in my life to use if they were writing a thank you). I changed the text to include capitols in the “Thanks So Much”.   I removed the little “thanks” paragraph and replaced it with our name “The Fowlers”.

Ordering Online from the Walmart Wedding Stationary store

I removed all the text from the back giving us a place to write our personal note.  For an additional fee I could have included a pre-printed address on the envelope flap–but I decided I’d just write it in.  After all, I’m not writing 100 thank-you’s all at once like a bride!  I had a final chance to review my design and make changes and then put the order through.  Of course they showed me a screen with some other coordinating products, hoping to tempt me.

The Thank You’s came in about a week.  They are on a nice thick cardstock with a pleasant wood grained pattern.  The printing quality was sharp and clear–excellent really.  And included as a “thank you” from Walmart was a code for 20% off my next order!

Custom Thank You Cards from Walmart

If you are planning a wedding (or have someone close to you planning one) I highly recommend heading over to the Walmart Stationery Store to check out their selection and order a sample kit–I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the quality, variety and price.

And if you need some wedding inspiration ideas, there is a great Wedding Inspiration Pinterest Board Walmart set up with inspiration for the various invitation styles:

There is also a free wedding planner tool with checklists, a budget tracker and a registry available at the Walmart.com Stationery store–so brides, check it out!.

My daughter and I went to the Walmart site just to check it out (we have no weddings in our immediate future!), and we were very impressed at the beautiful invitations. I had NO idea Walmart offered any kind of stationery- I would absolutely order from them,. They had some beautiful stuff! Glad you shared this post!
