Show Your Support–Greenlight a Vet!

November 10, 2015 By Jenn @ Frugal Upstate Leave a Comment

As a veteran myself, I always appreciate programs about and for the veterans of the US Armed Forces.  Which is why I am showing my support with Greenlight a Vet.

Walmart asked me to share the Greenlight a Vet initiative with you.

“Sometimes it can be hard to show veterans the appreciation that they deserve when, out of uniform, they are more camouflaged then ever.”

The idea is simple.  Buy a green bulb (at Walmart of course–they are only $.96) and place it in a visible light.  That’s it.  Just a light to show you care.

“Because even if we can’t see them, they should always be able to see our support.”

The response has been massive! There have been over 2.65 Million views of the video on Facebook, and another 10.6 Million views on YT.  Over 5,000 comments about the program on various forms of social media–and growing!  You can see a feed of the various posts and pictures at the Walmart Greenlight a Vet corporate page!

Want to get involved and show your support for Veteran’s Day and every day?  Buy your bulb, put it in your porch or other light, and then take a picture and share it on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #GreenlightaVet

And while we are talking about Veterans–let’s not forget Walmart’s Veterans Welcome Home Commitment .  On Memorial Day 2013, Walmart launched the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment. Since then, more than 100,000 new veteran associates have been hired and more than 9,000 have been promoted. On Memorial Day 2015, their commitment extended further to hire 250,000 veterans by 2020.
