Yankee Bill and I don’t go out much on honest to goodness, just the two of us dates very often. It’s not that we neglect each other–we relax in the hot tub as a couple a few nights a week, watch tv together for an hour or so most evenings, and in the summer enjoy some quiet time together on the front porch in the evenings. It’s just the “Let’s get dressed up and go out to dinner and a movie” type thing that is infrequent.
One of the times each year we DO make time for a date night is when we go on vacation as a family up in the Adirondacks each summer. My mother in law rents a cabin on Big Moose Lake for a month in the summer and invites us up to share a week with her. It’s become a tradition that each year Mom watches the kiddos while Bill and I take off for a nice dinner.
Of course if we are going out for a nice dinner (and there are some really nice places to eat up there!) I want to look good. . . but then again it’s the Adirondacks, so it’s not fussy. It’s summer mountain casual. Something a bit more than you’d wear around the camp but not really “dressy”.
It’s time for a comfortable, casual and easy to wear dress. Like the kind that Walmart asked me to write about! They wanted to highlight some of the great dress styles they have in store, and I wanted a new casual dress. I went into my local Walmart and looked around. There were quite a few nice options for the younger, more slender ladies. The more mature options were a tad more limited in my store. I did find several to try on. Yet again, I did not find the magical outfit that makes me look 30 lbs lighter, but oh well. What I did find was this light, swingy woven popover dress with embroidery in white. Isn’t it cute? Super comfortable too. I paired it with a white and straw hat that I already owned and a sweet set of dangling silver tone leaf earrings from Walmart that were just $2.88!!
Another thing I noticed in store was that there were a TON of the shorter soft jersey skirts I like–you know, basically the same as a maxi skirt with that nice, comfortable yoga style waistband, but without the maxi length. Tons of colors and patterns–I’ll be going back to Walmart to buy a couple later!

Looks like you had a fun evening out with your hubby. And in the Adirondacks, no less!! I always find the same thing at Walmart- that there aren’t as many clothing options for older/heavier women. Wish you’d pass that on to them. I would spend a lot more clothing dollars there if they had more available on the racks. Maybe it gets picked over quickly- I don’t know. But I’d love to see more plus-size options!
