Who doesn’t want to lead a healthier life? It’s one of those things that everyone seems to be striving for, but that often seems unreachable in our hectic daily lives. This month Walmart asked me to share some ways you can use just 10 minutes at a time to live a healthier life. No matter how busy we are, we can find a way to fit in 10 minutes, right?
10 Healthy Changes That Take Just 10 Minutes or Less
- Do 10 minutes of exercise to start reducing your risk of heart disease.
- Brush and floss your teeth daily. There are some promising links being found between dental health and heart disease!
- Deep breathing exercises for 10 minutes a day can reduce your overall stress.
- Swap out a high sugar/carbohydrate snack for an apple or other fresh fruit.
- Drink a glass of water before each meal to keep yourself more hydrated and curb your hunger.
- Got to bed 10 minutes earlier every night.
- Take just 10 minutes at the office to walk instead of having coffee or another snack.
- Stretch for 10 minutes during the day to keep joints flexible, increase blood flow to your muscles and improve posture.
- Laugh! It takes less than 10 minutes and can be very good for your health!
- Take your vitamins.
So what’s with the “10” theme here today? Well, it’s all because on 10/10 (Saturday October 10th) Walmart is hosting America’s Biggest Health Fair! That’s right, from noon to 4pm in over 4,400 stores, customers can receive free blood glucose and blood pressure tests, vision screenings, product samples and health insurance information, as well as immunizations administered by Walmart’s more than 17,000 licensed pharmacists. Walmart expects to set record breaking numbers during the single-day health fair with more than 300,000 screenings and immunizations projected. The screenings, which can take less than 10 minutes to complete, have proven to be highly valuable to many customers who may otherwise go undiagnosed for diabetes and high blood pressure.
Attending the health fair doesn’t have to take a lot of time either.
What can you do in 10 minutes at Walmart to make your life healthier?
- It takes 10 minutes or less to get your blood pressure taken and your blood glucose checked.
- It takes 10 minutes to get a flu shot and a pneumonia shot.
- In just 10 minutes, you can learn what are the best health insurance options for you.
- In just 10 minutes, you can get a vision screening and your eyeglasses cleaned and adjusted for free.
- Shopping at Walmart for just 10 minutes burns 35 calories.
