Valentines Day Date Night Eyes with Flower Cosmetics

I’m kind of a low maintenance gal when it comes to hair and makeup.  It’s not that I am makeup free–it’s just that I was never very good at doing anything complicated and don’t like to fuss.  Most days it’s a quick blow dry for the hair, and for makeup some eyeliner and lipstick.  Then out the door I go.

Walmart asked me to make a little change in honor of Valentine’s Day and pick up some of Drew Barrymore’s FLOWER line of cosmetics (available only at Walmart).  Last year while we were at Walmart Headquarters for a visit, the Walmart Moms got a surprise visit from Drew Barrymore herself–just to tell us about this new line!

She was so down to earth and sweet.  Can you see the colorful necklace she is wearing in the picture above?  It’s a dyed macaroni necklace her child made for her.  Isn’t that cute?

Anyway–she spent some time talking with us about why she started Flower.  The idea behind the company is that high quality cosmetics (department store quality) should be in the reach of every woman who wants to enhance her natural beauty.  The company doesn’t spend any money on advertising–which is why you’ve never seen a “Flower” TV commercial or magazine ad.  Instead Drew as the owner promotes them.  This allows them to create higher quality products and packaging at a price far lower than equivalent high end brands.  Not only that–but all the products are made in the USA and never tested on animals.

My local Walmart had a nice section of Flower products:

I know picking out new makeup can be stressful.  Will I like the colors?  What if it looks different on me than it does in the package? What if I hate it?  Well–that’s why purchasing cosmetics at Walmart is great–they have a 90 day return policy on all cosmetics with your original receipt.  Take it home.  Try it.  If you don’t like it, just bring it back with the receipt!  You can’t beat that peace of mind.  Here’s what I picked out:

A creme eyeshadow in a deep navy blue, Flower Ultimate Angled Eyeliner Makeup Brush, Smoke and Mirrors eyeshadow quad, and the Take a Brow — Brow Kit.

I like to use creme eyeshadow as eyeliner–it just seems like a more intense color and longer lasting than regular eyeliner.  I already have some in brown, black and a deep purple, so the navy seemed like a nice addition.  Remember–eyeliner is something I actually wear on a regular basis.  The angle brush was different then the other eyeliner brushes I had so I wanted to give it a try.

I admit–I particularly chose the quad because not only did I think it would make a nice dramatic date night eye–but I knew Princess would want it!  Ditto on the eyebrow kit.  My eyebrows are pretty thick and dark, so I don’t usually bother doing much with them. . . but since Princess is a teenage girl she is eager to try every beauty product out there and she doesn’t have a brow kit yet.  Triple purpose–date night and blog post for me, then a “hand-me-down” for my teenage daughter.  Win-win-win.

Here you can see me completely makeup free on the left, and with the makeup on the right.  I nominally used the directions provided by this YouTuber to do the eye (she reviews the Flower products then does the eye makeup starting at the 6min mark).  Mine doesn’t look anywhere near as good as hers of course.
