This week we continue on with BBC’s Wartime Farm series for TV Thursday. You can find a description of the series and the first show at BBC’s Wartime Farm, Episode 1.
This second episode centers around food, rationing and preparing for the winter. I always find information on rationing fascinating. We are so blessed today to have an abundance of food, the idea of having to be so careful with it is almost unthinkable. Of course they talk about food preservation and canning–and you all know that’s something I am totally into.
Decisions have to be made about the animals on the farm, and food needs to be stored for them over the winter as well (I found the section on silage interesting–I never realized that it was fermented grass/hay etc!).

You’ve gotten me completely hooked on this trio of experts! I binge-watched “Wartime Farm” – absolutely loved it! Why couldn’t they have made them do it for the number of years the war actually lasted? 😉 Now I’ve gone a bit further in time and I’m watching the trio in “Edwardian Farm”. It’s not as good as “Wartime” – but then, WWII is my favorite era. However, it is still fascinating to see how far we’ve come in a (relatively) short time.
I think they are great shows! Educational and fun at the same time. And unlike some other “reality” type shows, I really do think they stayed on set and did most of the work themselves.
Thank you for introducing me to these videos. I am really enjoying them. It is wonderful to see the women’s effort to the war recognized.
They are such fun videos, aren’t they? I learned a lot from them.
Have you ever watched The 1940’s House? They out modern day family in a house set up like it was during the war in the UK. It’s great fun!
