Here’s a little something fun I’ve decided to do. Once a week or thereabouts, I will share a “TV” show that I think is interesting or enjoyable to watch. Hopefully you’ll find it fun to watch too! I’m calling it “TV Thursday”.
Whenever I put up a “TV Thursday” post I’ll embed the video right in my blog post so you can watch it right on your computer, phone or tablet.
Watching YouTube Videos
For those of you who don’t watch a lot of longer YouTube videos or videos in general, here are a few tips:
When you start watching an embedded YouTube video some information will show over the video at the top and bottom. Don’t worry–these do disappear after a few minutes. If you want them back, just move your mouse back over the video and they will pop up.
The red and gray bar across the bottom of the screen shows you how far you are into the video. You can also “fast forward” by dragging or clicking on the bar to get further into the video.
There are several useful controls across the bottom of the video:
1: Play, forward and backwards. Remember, you can also just click or drag on the gray line to skip ahead.
2: Volume. When you click on it you will get a slider bar where you can adjust the video volume.
3: Time/Length. This shows how far you are in the video (in this example 7 minutes 33 seconds) and how long the whole video is (59 minutes 28 seconds)
4: The YouTube symbol lets you watch the video in YouTube itself instead of embedded on my blog.
5: Full Screen. Click on this and the video will fill your computer screen.
Watching YouTube on your TV
With longer shows like many of the ones I will be sharing, it can be far more enjoyable to watch the videos on your TV instead of a laptop, computer, tablet or phone.
If you have a newer TV there may be a “YouTube” app or feature built in. If not and you have some sort of streaming device you use on your TV for things like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, then you may also have YouTube capability through there. At my house we use the Xbox 360 console to watch YouTube videos on the TV screen.
Now you won’t be able to pull my blog post up to watch these videos on your TV. That’s where the “Watch in YouTube” button can come in handy. If you click on that you can go straight to that video in YouTube itself. Then you can use the “Add to” button under the video and add it to a playlist (I have one titled “watch later”). When you access YouTube from your TV you should have access to your playlists. Viola, just choose that video and watch it full screen.
Another option that Youtube has is to link your phone/tablet with your YouTube account on the TV. Then you can pull up a video on your phone and “send” it to YouTube on your TV. This is different for various phones etc, but don’t worry, YouTube has an entire article on “How to control YouTube on TV with your Phone, Tablet or Computer“.
Watching Other Kinds of Videos
There are other video services out there–Vemo, Tubi Tv, Netflix and more. If I ever share those sources for videos, I’ll add more specific directions on how to watch them (if necessary) here.
Enjoy! I’ll be starting TV Thursday next week.

Oooo! That Wartime Farm pictured looks interesting! I will go to the freewifi and check it out on my little Tablet — I’ve just started working out how to use it after peeking over the edge of it since September
Tv Thursdays, a day to plan for leaving the house. Groovy!
