Around the Web: Wildcrafting/Weekly Weeder Series at Common Sense Homesteading

Lately I’ve become quite interested in herbal medicine.

Don’t get worried-I’m not likely to eschew hospitals, antibiotics, vaccinations and regular check ups any time soon-but I do like knowing about alternative options and how they might work together with a modern lifestyle.

I can grow or wildcraft a lot of the materials myself-so that can makes herbal treatments a very inexpensive option.  And who knows, if I was every in a situation where I couldn’t get traditional medications, it’s nice to know a few alternatives!

In my online browsing for information I came across a nice blog called Common Sense Home.  She had a lovely series called “Wildcrafting Weekly” where she covers common weeds that have either medicinal or food value.

Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing my Weekly Weeder series. While I’m not abandoning modern medicine completely, either, it’s nice to know their are options available – free! The boys and I get a kick out of identifying weeds in our yard and on our travels.

I’ll never forget when my son was younger and started looking through one of my herbals. He asked, “Mom, are these real healing potions?” Yup! They certainly are. Oftentimes, the weeds grow more prolifically than domesticated crops, even in lousy weather. This week I’ll be covering sulfur cinquefoil. 🙂

Thanks! I’m looking forward to the series.

I especially appreciate the post on Common Sense Homesteading about how to grow stevia. That is my sweetener of choice and one of my non-frugal indulgences.
