So remember a few weeks ago how I was so excited when the Dyson DC35 arrived at the Frugal Upstate household, courtesy of the Walmart Mom program? And then a few days later I gave you my review of the Digital Slim?
Well, the kind folks at Dyson have asked me a final question. “How many ways can you think of to use the Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Vacuum?”
You see, the DC35 can be configured in a bunch of different ways-the power unit is separate, so you can attach just a nozzle, brush or the power head to that, OR you can attach the extension wand and then any one of those things. And since it is cordless and weighs only 5 lbs it can be taken anywhere-many places that your regular “big” vacuum won’t fit (remember this is a stick vac). Of course on the flip side you’ve only got 12 minutes of power. But that’s 12 minutes of active suction, not 12 minutes from the first time you turn it on-so if you do a couple minute bursts here and there you’ve got more time than you think.
But back to the question: How many ways COULD I think of to use this powerful stick vac?
1. Opened the door down to the basement (which is dirt and unfiinished) and noticed all the totally disgusting ICK in the corner. Let’s take that nozzle and hit that.
2. I looked above me and saw the cobwebs on the underside of the stairs. Hit that too.
3. Now into the kitchen. Of course under the stove is a mess, so we’ll vacuum there.
4. Then there are those vents under the refrigerator that you are supposed to keep clean. So we’ll get the gunk off them.
5. Now into the den. We’ve got 9 foot ceilings (it’s an old old house) so the corners up there don’t get cleaned often! Put the extension on the vac and clean those out.
6. Hmm. While I’m up here maybe I should get the the top of the door frames. Yes, those are pocket doors. Isn’t the trim beautiful?
7. So what else can I do? These sheers in the front window just hang there year round-I never think to take them down & wash them. So I’ll run the brush attachment down those to pick up some of the dust.
8. Since up up near the ceiling, how about that gorgeous chandelier? Those crystals haven’t been cleaned since we moved in 4 years ago. It’s a good idea to get the dust off of those as well.
9. Hey-while I’m here, what about that weird little corner between the old fashioned radio and the wall(it was my husband’s grandfather’s radio-back when they made it real furniture!).
10. Of course the stairs are always a pain to vacuum with the regular upright. That thing weighs a ton and isn’t really convenient. But by attaching the power head to the power unit and I’ve got something small, powerful & portable. Woohoo!
11. Hmm. carpets really aren’t that different from upholstery in a way-can I vacuum the sofa? Why yes!
12. Back to the kitchen to get a drink-all this work is making me thirsty! Wait, there are some crumbs on the counter. Why get a washcloth when I’m holding the DC35?
13. You know the utensil drawer is right there-and weird crumbs always end up in the little compartments. How does that happen when I’m just putting clean forks and such in there? Anyway, the nozzle took care of that too!
13. I’m standing right next to that funky corner cabinet in our kitchen too. I love that they have the lazy susans-but stuff gets caught under there. Dyson to the rescue there too!
14. Hmm-we have heat vents in the kitchen too. (well, in lots of places throughout the house). Not only can I pull out the vent cover and vacuum that, but I can put the long wand on and get way down into that vent.
15. My poor broom is sad that I like using the DC35 more than it. But that’s ok, I will cheer it up by giving those bristles a good cleaning! (I hate how dust bunnies just seem to cling to the bristles sometimes. Blah)
16. Dust bunnies make me think of lint, which makes me wonder: What about my laundry room? Off I go and use the vacuum to get down that lint trap.
17. And that lint screen itself-just use the vac and it’s clean.
So that’s 17 ways I came up with, just walking around the house, to use the DC35 Digital Slim stick vacuum by Dyson. Of course there are many, many more. What about cleaning out your car (remember, it’s cordless so you can take it right out there) or getting behind your tv or computer? You could use the brush & power unit and run it along lampshades, wall hangings, pictures or anything really.
So if YOU had a Dyson DC35 what would you clean with it?

Jenn,
I have a Australian Shepard named Opal, three cats (Moe, Smirnoff, and Spirit) a house with ceramic tile flooring, I frequently find under the couch an extra animal made out of hair! I think the dyson could conquer the enourmous furballs I find along with sucking up spilled crumbs my animals leave behind, plus each room in my house has has a ceiling fan. They have to be cleaned weekly, living here in the desert they are in action, oh about now to the end of October, basically we use them year round. I use my vacuum attachments and then wipe down with a damp cloth, but I am sure the dyson would be lighter and a bit more ergonomic? That is what I would use it for.

Oh man I’m so jealous of you! I’ve been dying to get one. I think I’ll just have to buy my own 🙂

I would use it ( or get my son/daughter) to use it around the kitty’s litterbox!

I have wanted one of these since I first heard about it. I have had a Dyson vacuum for years now and love, love, love it, so I knew this would be a fabulous hand-held. With 4 kids there are no end to the messes I could clean up with this baby. I will keep dreaming. 😀
