You just can’t start the New Year without at least a few goals! It’s a tradition!

Budgeting

1. Make a budget.

Yes, I know, I’m a frugal living blogger living without a budget. It just seems wrong. Yankee Bill and I have always been able to pretty much do our savings & investing first, then pay the bills, then spend the remainder without having a strict budget. It’s what I once heard referred to as “budgeting by the force”-you sort of have a feeling for how much you have and what you are spending.

Unfortunately with the rising price of, well, everything. . .this method isn’t working so well for us any more. We have both admitted that it’s time to buckle down and do a real budget. And of course I’ll be blogging about it 🙂

2. Eat out less.

For the last year as my consulting business has picked up and the kids have gotten more involved in after school activities the amount of eating out we have done has increased. And this holiday season with guests and stress and whatnot it has really gotten out of control. Time to reign that puppy back in!

3. Grow more of our own food.

This is a process that I continue to work on and learn with. Gardening is just one of those things that you keep doing and refining over time. I grew most of our veggies for the summer last year, but didn’t really have as much to “put by” as I wanted. I will continue to work on this for 2011-incorporating more containers and edible landscaping into our life to increase our food yield.

So what are your frugal living goals for 2011?

My goal: Use that crock pot to save both time AND money! Now that the sports have kicked up again I find we are out more than in, and I don’t like feeding the kids fast food. So, I’ve dusted off the crockpot, got a cookbook for Christmas, and this week am making cabbage rolls :0) We’ll see how it goes . . .

Some frugal living goals for 2011: track expenses, pay off car loan, figure out a way to bring drinks to work (I already pack lunch and breakfast, but haven’t found a way to bring non-pop drinks without them spilling).
