Times are tight for everyone this holiday season. Wouldn’t it be great to have a little more cash?

Wouldn’t it be great to figure out how to make the cash you do have stretch farther?

Thanks to Nickelodeon and Walmart you can do both!

Yes, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to sponsoring a contest that will not only collect together some of the BEST holiday money saving tips on the web, they are also giving one lucky Frugal Upstate reader a $500 Walmart gift card!

Talk about a present that will always be the right color and size!

Since the stakes are high for this contest, so is the bar! There are multiple ways to enter this contest, but for each entry you must submit a separate-that means different folks-holiday specific money saving tip.

Be sure you leave an email address with each tip. If I can’t contact you, I’ll have to choose another winner!

You can enter 5 separate times by doing each of, or any combination of, the following:

#1-By commenting on this post and leaving a holiday money saving tip.

#2
-By writing a blog post mentioning a) this contest, b) Nickelodeon, c) Walmart & d) Frugal Upstate. Then in that post you have to give a different holiday money saving tip (don’t just repeat your original tip) and link back to this post. Then you have to come back here and leave another comment with the link back to your blog post.

#3-If you use twitter, you can tweet a holiday money saving tip, using the #nick11 hashtag in the tweet, and then return and leave another comment.

#4-You can create a Video Blog (Vlog) with a holiday money saving tip. You must mention a) the contest, b) Nickelodeon, c)Walmart and d) Frugal Upstate in the video. Then post it to Youtube & come back to comment here and link to the video.

#5-Subscribe to this blog, then leave a comment letting me know you have with, yes, another holiday money saving tip. If you are already subscribed you don’t have to do it again, just tell me that and leave your tip.

I WILL THROW OUT any entries that are not about the holidays, or that do not follow the directions above (ie didn’t link back to this post in their post, don’t mention Nickelodeon etc)

The winner will be chosen at random (using the random number generator) out of all the valid entries. I say again-the VALID entries. Make sure you read and follow those directions above folks!!!

The contest runs from today-Friday November 28th through Monday December 15th at 12 noon, EST.

You can enter to win a $500 Walmart gift card not only here but at all of the ElevenMoms’ sites. You can only win once, but you can try to win at each site. Each contest may have slightly different rules, so make sure you read carefully! Many of the tips will be featured on the Elevenmoms site-maybe even yours!

So good luck! I am looking forward to seeing all the great ideas. . .

I just subscribed! One of my holiday tips is to handmake your Christmas cards. You can use stamps, stickers, cutouts from wrapping paper and you can please anyone!

Happy Holidays! I try to save by shopping year round for things I know I will use during the holidays. After Christmas sales, clearance sales, any seasonal sales all get my attention. Search online for coupon codes for the stores you prefer. Seek out merchants that will accept computer printed coupons – not all of them will.
Shop online to save time and gas and it also helps me avoid the temptations that I have when an item is right in front of me.

My best frugel idea is to go after the holiday for next years deals on decorations. I have found great things to do this and saved lots of money.

My best "different" tip would be to teach your children to value old fashion hard work instead of commercialized Fads. Have them make their own christmas cards and tree decorations. If you have a Gift exchange amongst adult, have it a NO BUY rule… you have to make it with your own hands!

I'm sure that's not the kind of tip your looking for especially in this day and age!

Also, I make a list of whom I need to buy for IN JANUARY, then throughout the year I buy items on clearance and/or with coupons. Stick to the list. Do not impulse buy! My wallet does not know what retail means because I refuse to purchase gifts at retail. I'm not a scrooge…really. It's just that when your bring home pay is less than 1,000 per month you stretch where and when you can.

Same goes for decorations, those that we don't make, we purchase AFTER the holidays and put them away for the following year.

Stockpile items with coupons so you are buying them at about 90% OFF. Purchasing a case of ketchup, mayo, beans, whatever… will keep you from paying full price throughout the rest of the year! One time I bought 9 PALLETS of toilet paper (15 four packs to a pallet) because I had a coupon that made them free. We gave 1 pallet to the food pantry, divided 1 pallet up among friends & family and the rest we kept. It lasted 2 years!

    Thanks

My family and I buy our Christmas presents through out the year. That way, when Christmas time comes, we aren’t rushing out into the stores to find what we want. It makes it much easier, and we have more money to spend on other things we may need.

If you use very few minutes a month and don’t need a fancy fancy phone try Net10 they are always 10 cents a minute, Pay as you go and o contracts.

Wait for things to go on sale. Compare sale prices and see if other stores have a matching price policy.

My holiday savings tips are to make a list of each person you need to buy for and start shopping early. That way you can search for coupons, discounts, etc. and you are not pressured to buy something at the last minute. Also, to accumulate Swagbucks throughout the year and redeem for Amazon gift cards (I often find the best deals on Amazon) to use for Christmas gifts. Also, I plan to send an e-Christmas card this year. In an effort to save money I purchased a membership to americangreetings.com and have sent ecards for birthdays, etc. rather than actual cards. At $3-4 a card this has really saved me money! Finally, wait until after the holiday to buy decorations, Christmas cards, etc. so that they are extremely discounted!

I am a subscriber to Frugal Upstart. My other savings tip is to save and recycle holiday bags and tissue paper. Buying these new everytime can really add to the cost of each gift.
