To feel most beautifully alive means to be reading something beautiful, ready always to apprehend in the flow of language the sudden flash of poetry

I love to read-so I thought I’d share with you all~more or less weekly~what I’ve had on my bookshelf & computer screen during the week.

Online:

Now this is a interesting (& frugal) way to I found at Style to Style: What’s your take? Artsy or dumb?

This cute circle vest at Threads Magazine takes one piece of fabric, no seams and supposedly only a few minutes! All you have to do is cut & use bias tape. Actually-if you made it in fleece you wouldn’t even have to do that. I wonder if Princess would like one?

In my internet wanderings I also ran into Ana White (which used to be called knock off wood). Her site has fantastic free plans for building your own furniture. Wow!  I particularly like this rustic bench -I once saw a picture in a magazine of 3 benches like this stacked on top of each other (big to small) like a bookshelves in various shades of blue & green. Maybe I can convince Yankee Bill to make me some?

I’ve been meaning to paint a laminate captains bed that I bought for $50 last year to go in Princess’s room. This article on how to paint laminate over at Living with Linsey should help me out. Now to just do it.  That’s always the catching point with my plans-find the time & inclination to implement them!

Organize Your Stuff Now had a neat idea to use a simple printed word cloud to make inexpensive, personalized wall art!

I also found out from Frugality In The Making that coffee prices are on the rise, and I’m thinking that now is a good time to cut back on my coffee consumption and herbal drink tea instead.

I seem to keep seeing things in the news about bedbugs.

Bedbugs.  I try to be fairly organic, but I don’t know what I’d do if I found them in my home. . .Seems like a lot of the folks reading this article at Seventh Generation on Bedbugs feel the same.

And on the weird but interesting front, did you know that there is a lake in America that is slowly growing & engulfing homes?

On my bookshelf:

I’ve been reading the kids the “The Sisters Grimm” series since the start of the summer.  It’s about these two girls who find out that 1) they are the descendants of Wilhelm & Jacob Grimm (the brother’s Grimm) and 2) All those fairy tales aren’t fairy tales-they are accounting of true facts! The series is fun & interesting, I personally enjoyed reading it before I started reading it to the kids. We are currently on the 4th book “Once Upon a Crime”.  (note: if you are homeschooling there is a librarian/teachers guide also there is a video on Youtube where the author introduces The Sisters Grimm)

Nora Roberts “The Search”.  This is one of her new releases so I put myself on the list at the library-but I just don’t seem to be getting into it yet (and I’m at the 3rd chapter).  I need to settle down with a good cup of tea tonight and just give myself some time to read. . .

Otherwise it’s been a pretty slow week reading wise-usually I’d be done a novel & started another one by now!

So-what do you all think about the new “What I’m Reading” feature? Love it, hate it, not sure about it?

Oh-and help me think of a much better title for it 🙂

I’m always interested in hearing what others are reading.

For a title…how about “Off the Shelf”?

I like it. I always want to do something like this, but I’m not sure how to squeeze it in. Keep it up.

    Jenn,
I think the idea is great. I am jealous though, I am a reading lover too, but when I went back to school I rarely have time for personal reading, instead I am reading textbooks on various subjects! However I try to squeeze some time, it just takes me 3-6 weeks to finish a book! I like the suggestion TopazTook gave “Off the Shelf” I think it is an interesting post and my kids love “The Sisters Grimm” too.

I like this reading feature! I like having some direction as to where to look for information, as in painting laminate. I would not look for that as I did not know you could do it! Now this opens a whole new realm of possibilities for me! Thanks.
