Frugal Babe has tagged me for the “8 Things About Me” meme that’s been floating around the blogosphere for the last couple of months. For those of you who don’t know, a meme is sort of like a chain letter-you are tagged by someone to answer a list of questions. It’s a fun way to find out some more about the people you like reading.
I do have to admit, not having anyone tag me had made me feel a bit like an Internet wallflower (won’t anyone ask me to dance?). It makes me feel like one of the popular kids in Jr. High to finally have someone tag me 🙂 Yeah, the in crowd likes me!
Of course the hard part is finding things to tell you that I haven’t already mentioned in the “100 Things About Me” meme, or the “5 Things About Me” meme. Well, of course there are lots of things that I could say, but most of them are not interesting. . .
Here we go:
#1 I am an emotional person-I cry at sad movies, during fights, etc. Because of this my mom was worried when I became an Army Lieutenant that I’d wind up crying when someone yelled at me. (It didn’t happen)
#2 I love “systems”-organizational systems or methods for streamlining a task or processes, but am lousy at keeping them going for the long haul. I get completely enamored of a system, read about it, think about it, put it in place, and then maintain it for about 2 weeks before I start forgetting and it falls by the wayside. There are a few exceptions to this-my family calendar, the Household Notebook and Kids Notebook (just for the kiddos info) etc. I am however good at organizing projects that have an end date, such as fundraisers, work projects (when I was working) etc. It is just the long term lifestyle changes that I have a hard time maintaining.
#3 I am bad with peoples names-although I’m decent at remembering faces. I like to blame it on the Army, saying that for 11 years everyone around me had their name written on their shirt (so I never had to try to remember). The honest truth is I’m just bad at names and need to either repeat it a bunch of times or try really hard to remember.
#4 In college a girlfriend an I once made up a batch of brownie batter and ate the entire bowl raw. I also love cookie dough, and sometimes I’ll make cookies, bake some and freeze some in balls to cook later-a lot of those get eaten frozen and raw straight from the freezer. (and I don’t offer them to anyone else either)
#5 I’m bossy. Yankee Bill tells me that it is “in a good way”-but I really do tend to think that my way of doing this is superior to everyone else’s. (I could try to hide it by saying I’m “confident”, but in reality it’s just bossy-ness). This blog allows me to get up in my bully pulpit and tell everyone else what I think they should be doing, at least in regards to Frugality.
#6 This fall I plan on starting a second blog “Beyond Frugal Upstate” where I can give my opinion on everything else-child rearing, relationships, crafts, life philosophy, decorating, etc etc etc. I have to wait until fall because
#7 I have a tendency to take on too many things at once. Right now, as an example, I am supposed to be coordinating the church website (in hiatus awaiting the developer) planning a fall wine tasting, being a liaison for the professional Theatre’s website (almost complete), planning the raffle of theatre tickets at the town craft fair in 2 weeks, baking 2 dozen cookies for a church spaghetti supper on Thursday, on the church governing board, the church fundraising committee (which is just 2 of us) and on one of the subcommittees about our church partnering with another church that doesn’t have a priest, blogging (see why I had to cut down to 3 or 4 posts a week), trying to organize a MOPs group for the town, developing a scholarship application for the community theatre I am on the board of, and stage managing another production at said community theatre (I was going to act but decided 3 nights a week for the entire month of Aug was too much). Oh yeah-and there is a community garage sale on Sat that I have to prepare for. I’m trying to disengage from several of these things
#8 Finally, a frugalite heresy–I don’t like powdered milk. I keep it on hand for baking and emergencies-but no matter what anyone else says, I can taste the difference. Ick.
So there you have it, 8 more things you probably didn’t even want to know about me.
Now to tag some folks. Many of the folks I read regularly have already posted their lists, but there are a few that are still out there. Alexandra, from Happy Hearts at Home, Meredith over at Like Merchant Ships, and Rebecca at The Space Between My Peers. Have fun ladies!

Can’t wait for the new blog! I really think you have a gift for writing. Your personality and your uniqueness really come through. I would encourage anyone who wants to to write, but I had a college professor once say about writing, “Some people hear the music and some don’t.” I think you hear the music. Lots of luck with all of your endeavors! Jayne
Your commitment list looks so much like mine. I am exhausted all of the time and am hanging by a thread most days. Squeeze in a nap, girlie! You deserve it!!
I have worked hard to not over commit. Learned that lesson the hard way…numerous times. One of our big goals for our family is simplicity. Not sooo far as the Mennonite communities, but still…you get the picture. And I agree! I can totally taste the difference in that “ookie” powdered milk! I keep mine on hand as well. I sometimes mix it in when the regular milk gets about 1/2 full to stretch it a little further. That’s as close as I can get to drinking it. My 2 year old was out and so I mixed her up some and refrigerated it…she told me “this milks not right!” Ha!
We have a lot in common. I hate powdered milk and skim too. The taste disgusts me. Thanks for the cool blog you have. Annette
I’m terrible with names, too, but I never forget a face. I have to meet someone several times and make a real effort to remember before it ‘sticks.’
And I’m with you on powdered milk. It’s disgusting. I’ll save money elsewhere, thank you very much. (These days, with milk at almost $5 a gallon, there will be a lot more ‘elsewheres’!)
And I never get tagged, either, so don’t feel bad.
Hi Jenn,
I just wanted to say I got your email and you’re right. I should have a more detailed information about myself especially in my “about” page. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I’ll update it sometime this week.
Thanks,
Andy from moneywalks
Jayne-What a lovely compliment! I’m so glad you enjoy my writing, I enjoy doing it and it really seems to fill a need for me.
Amy-Over committed women unite! (and I do occasionally squeeze in a nap-by forcing Princess and Buddy to take “quiet time” in their rooms.)
Gini & Annette-I swear, some folks have the “powdered milk tasting” gene, and others don’t. I’ve always meant to try the 1/2 and 1/2 trick, but never seem to get around to it-probably because of my powdered milk aversion. I don’t have any problem with skim milk on the other hand.
M2F-Well girlie, consider yourself tagged! I’ll be checking for your 8 things soon!
Andy-not a problem!
If its genetic, then I must be the milkman’s kid. I loooooove dry milk! I even skim the lumpy stuff off the top and eat it from the pitcher when I make a new batch 🙂
xoxo,
Vic
Thanks Jenn…I’ve got mine up, although it’s very short. I really don’t like writing about myself. I blather on about almost anything else though! 😉 Thanks for the tag.
Jenn, thanks for the tag!
I should have thought to “spread the love” to Frugal Upstate. I always feel intrusive by tagging people and rarely, if ever, do memes because of that : )
Vic-ewww. Can I just say again, ewww!
Alexandra and Meredith-Can’t wait to see what you’ve written 🙂
