This week, thanks to the kind folks at Rubbermaid, I am giving away a 20 piece set of food storage containers.
I thought this was a great fit for Frugal Upstate-after all, one of the big ways I advocate saving money is by cooking at home. When you cook at home, you always have plenty of uses for storage containers. You need places to marinate things, to keep prepped food, and of course to place leftovers!
I received the exact set of containers that I am giving away to test and review myself. That was over a month ago-I really wanted to take the time to use them, store them, throw them in the dishwasher~I wanted to put them through all the trials and tribulations that they would go through in a normal house! About the only thing that I didn’t do was freeze in them-but I prefer to freeze things in zippered baggies so I can squeeze out all the air possible.*
The set of 10 pieces (which is really 10 because they count lids and bottoms separately) is a variety pack of sorts. Inside are:
Two Produce Savers, Three Lock-It’s (my favorite-they just seem so secure!), Three Easy Find Lids, and two Premier.
I liked these containers. First of all, they were just so new and pretty! All of my other containers, which function fine, are stained and cloudy looking. But of course looks can be a transient state–so the question is, how did they function?
One of the things I really liked about these products was that all the bases & lids were interchangeable. Well, of course the smallest lids don’t fit on the big containers-but the lids are exactly the same size for the deep and the shallower ones. The deep and the shallow ones all stack nicely together, and you can interchange the bottoms with any style of the tops. It is very convenient.
The Easy lid feature is cool too. Basically, all the lids lock together, and then lock into place on the bottom of the container itself:
The only improvement I would suggest to the Rubbermaid team is to find a way to make all the different kinds of lids attach to each other. With 4 different types of lids in the cupboard I wind up with 4 different stacks. Of course they all stack with their own kind, and they don’t fall out of the cupboard every time I open it! Honestly though, if I were to buy any additional containers, I would pick just one type and purchase those so my entire set would stack in the smallest space.
I gave these containers the full run through in the last month or so. They’ve gone from fridge to microwave to dishwasher with no staining, warping or cloudiness.

Nice giveaway Jenn – I would use most of these for packing my husband’s lunches. He takes leftover most days so we always need containers for that.
Thank you for the chance to win. I would put in the usual leftovers of course, but I would also use it for some pantry staples and for organizing the kitchen. I like that they are so see through. I agree with you, it’s really 10 pieces (all the companies do that these days).
I Re-Tweeted too. Thanks for the 2nd chance.
I would put leftover soup in them to bring to work!

I’m really getting into saving everything to save money. I freeze every bit of leftovers we have. Every couple of weeks, I pull out the containers and whip up a smorgasboard or just a mish mash of things for dinner. It keeps things interesting. So I’d fill these with treasures for our mish mash dinner!

That last twitter link didn’t work. Your shortened link doesn’t seem to work so I twittered again. Please delete my last comment. Thanks!

I will place all of my sons pets and rocks he collect. Far better than his pockets.
Love this giveaway. I just realized this past week that most of
my containers have disappeared, I really need new ones. I like to
keep my leftovers in these and use them for homemade salsa, too.
thanks for sharing

What will I store in these? Lots! Leftovers, lunches to take to work (galley food is getting pretty bad here), freeze fruits and vegetables from the local farmers markets for later use — definitely donate to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society the oddball containers DH bought while waiting for me to join him to ….
I already subscribe …
How pretty storage containers have become. This would be a welcome addition to my home, or anyones for that matter.
We are eating lots of salads these days and I like a variety of veggies –not just some lettuce and dressing. So (if I win) these will mostly end up in the refrigerator holding salad “fixins”.
I love the Lock-Its. I have a couple that we use for packing salads for lunches. They keep the salad safe and secure despite the tumbling that my lunch-bag goes through. It would be great to have a couple more!
I subscribe by email. 🙂
Ah new containers, for me that menas hopefully storing the contents of our very first veggie garden. If the rain ever stops and doesn’t wash it all away, we might be able to grow something, lol.
I would use these containers for leftovers. We never have enough containers when we need them.
I am a longtime subscriber. 🙂
I would use them for storage in my freezer and refrigerator and then ditch all my various and sundry old containers that don’t stack.
I am a subscriber to your blog, thanks for the great information you provide! I can think of a ton of uses for the Rubbermaid containers. My most pressing need is to organize my pantry and those would be great to store cereal, pasta, oatmeal, dried beans … really anything I buy in bulk to take advantage of sales. I also could see myself using them in the frig for leftovers, soup, stews, etc.
Thanks for giving me the chance to win!
