Quick Tip: Moisturize Your Hands

I don’t know about you, but my hands get very dry and chapped in the winter.  Here is a quick, easy & frugal way to fit a “deep moisturization” into your routine.

Simply slather your hands with your regular hand lotion, slip on your yellow latex dishwashing gloves (we all have them, right?) and then wash the dishes.

The glove will keep the lotion right next to the skin and allow it plenty of time to seep in while also providing a “sauna” like effect-especially if you are washing in hot water-that opens the pores and allows the lotion to penetrate even more deeply.

Ahh. That’s better!  And it didn’t cost you a fortune either.

Don’t have any lotion? Never fear-there is an even more frugal option.  Believe it or not plenty of folks out there use plain old olive oil or even vegetable shortening instead.

What a great tip! My hands are my worst feature I think because they betray my age; LOL. I have gloves and I usually forget to put them on. And I do use Vaseline on my very dry feet and then put socks on. But do you think I might remember my hands that are oh so visible? No. Thanks for the reminder.

    Blessings,
    Debbie

Actually, vegetable shortening (or any oil really) works better than most hand lotions, especially when pair it with wearing rubber gloves for a time to let the oil really get absorbed. Baby soft hands is the result.

I vouch for olive oil – works like a charm! You could even put it on your hands before bed and put some gloves on. When you wake in the morning any dry skin is gone & it lasts all day. If my son would stop “borrowing” my latex gloves for science experiments I’d be doing it every other night right now.

Oh and if you have long hair and usually shower in the morning – you can put olive oil on the ends of you hair and it will moisturize it – my hair usually absorbs all of it to the pint of not being stringy when I wake. Any oil that gets on your pillow & on to your face will be absorbed and that hasn’t ever caused me to have break outs (just soft cheeks).
I guess you could put oilve oil all over your hair to make all of it soft but I have oily scalp & only need moisture on hair below my chin.
