Do you know what Romp Stompers are? They are basically tin can stilts. I vaguely remember having some in the classroom in grade school (Kindergarten?) but had totally forgotten about them until Amy mentioned them a while back on the Motherload.
These things are easy and practically free to make, and young school aged children love them. All you need are two cans that are the same size, some rope (I spent a buck at the dollar store on some clothesline) and a can opener that has the pointed end that punches out a little triangle in the old fashioned V8 style cans.
Simply punch 2 holes across from each other and thread the rope through. Ta Da! I dug the cans out of the recycle bin and made two sets (of course) so Buddy and Princess wouldn’t fight. I still have plenty of rope left for another use.

I remember having these as a child. I thought they were great fun, but they didn’t last too long – I was a bit heavy and squashed them – all ready for the recycling then I guess!!
Great idea! I remember reading about these in “Beezus and Ramona.”
Rachel-since they are so cheap to make, I can always just whip up another pair if they get squashed. . .
Heather-wow, talk about a flashback. Haven’t thought about Beverly Cleary in a long time.
