Soy sauce & wasabi paste

My family is in love with a Wasabi Soy salad dressing that I am having an increasingly difficult time finding.  It used to be sold at just a single store in town, the most expensive one that I never ever shop in, except to swing by the sushi counter and pick up the dressing.

Except the last two months they have been out of it.

I decided to take matters into my own hands last week.  I searched the web and combined a couple of recipes to come up with this dressing.  It is sweeter than the one I had been buying, but the whole family loved it.

Soy Wasabi Salad Dressing

1/4 c vinegar
1/4 c soy
1/4 cup sesame oil
1/4 cup corn oil
2 Tbs  Wasabi powder
2 Tbs honey
1/2 tsp ginger powder
1 Garlic clove, minced

Blend it all together and serve.

Variations:

Substitute regular oil for the sesame-but you’d be losing a ton of flavor.
Substitute brown sugar for the honey
Use rice vinegar instead of plain
Add 1TBS diced ginger

Sounds yummy. Have you used it on salad only, or have you tried it on other things–maybe tuna or other types of fish?

I don’t know if you’ve seen it in the stores where you are or not, but we get wasabi mayo. My hubby absolutely hates mayo but doesn’t mind this stuff as much because of the wasabi — so he uses that for his tuna salad. It might be a good ingredient in your dressing too!

Gina-I haven’t tried it as a marinade, but I would bet it would be good! Some folks might want to cut down on the vinegar a bit if using it as a marinade.

Alex-I’ve seen wasabi mayo but never tried it. I bet there are some good recipes out there that give you the proportions to mix up your own (out of coupon or store brand mayo of course). I’ll see what I can dig up-maybe you can save a bit on something you like so much 🙂
