Jazzing It Up With Holiday Place Settings

Do you dress up your dinner table for Christmas?  There is just something so pretty about a table all set with a tablecloth and nice dishes. . .

For the holiday season Walmart asked us how we could create a beautiful table combining things we already owned with a few new touches from the Walmart holiday selection.  Usually I’m a pretty traditional gal when it comes to decorating, it’s just my personal style and goes so well with my big old village home built in the 1890’s.  When I was down at Walmart headquarters for our annual holiday trip, they showed us some of the new holiday dishes from Better Homes and Gardens.  I liked the traditional ones with the holly and wildlife, but I just fell in love with the clean and modern plates in gold and silver!

Better Homes and Garden for Christmas

I set off to my local Walmart to see if I could find those same dishes to mix and match in with things I already had on hand.

They not only had the plates, but they also had a cute apron, oven mitt, tablecloth and more in the same theme.  I picked up 4 salad plates (since I was just going for an accent and frankly was on a budget): two snowflakes, one deer and one trees.

Then I went home and scavenged through the cupboards and china cabinet.  I found:

White napkins
Gold chargers (purchased one year in the post holiday sales at Walmart)
My good stainless (silver colored with gold accents)
A round red tablecloth (also previously purchased at Walmart)
A crystal bowl
A Christmas pyramid
The flameless candles I bought for my “Ways to Make Your Home Welcoming to Guests” post
The Glitzy Napkin Rings I made last year.

A few minutes later I had an easy and pretty holiday table!

Place Settings from Walmart for the Holidays

Of course that is just one rendition!  There are other ways to jazz up the basic place settings (and 0h–it would have looked better with glassware–what was I thinking?).  I tried putting on the napkin rings (glamorous!), changing out the candle for the Christmas Pyramid I got in Germany while stationed there, and even putting a plain white plate rimmed with gold under the fancy salad plates.  Each of those small changes gives a different look.

The other moms seem just as enamoured of this particular set of dishes as I was–check out how Melanie at Modern Mami uses a full set of the plates, and Lynnae at LynnaeMcCoy.com pairs hers up with homemade napkin rings.
