Frugal Fun – Nature Centers

Today is the start of our Spring Break-so we are enjoying some free fun at a local county nature center. A children’s program on predators that includes a slide show, live presentation and craft.

Do you have a nature center near you? Have you ever been? The Finch Hollow Nature Center in Binghamton has a couple of museum rooms, nature trails and a presentation room.

Not only that, but since it falls under the county parks system I was able to pick up fliers on all of the local parks that show all the amenities and hiking trails. I also was able to sign up for a free newsletter about future pogroms for both children and adults…and pick up a sheet about the FREE full day summer camps offered for kids preschool through 6th grade.

That’s a pretty successful frugal run trip!

Not sure if you’ve got a nature center near you? Try your county parks system website, or Google “nature center” and your town, county or next largest metro area name. Your county extension office may also be able to help.

Do you have a nature center near you? Have you ever used them for frugal family fun?

My home home town (about 7,000 people in the middle of no where) had one but the major metropolitan area I live in doesn’t. Seems backwards to me. . .
I keep meaning to go back to where I grew up for my son to see that & some other stuff (if it’s still around) but it’s an hour & half away on way so, I keep not finding the time. Maybe this summer….
