Here’s something that will make your life easier if you enjoy home baked bread–Homemade Dinner Roll Kits for the Breadmachine!  These will take roll making from a chore into something simple.  Now homemade rolls don’t have to wait for special occasions, although these kits are a huge time saver on busy holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas!

The idea is that the kit includes all the dry ingredients, minus the yeast, for your rolls.  When you want to make rolls you just measure your wet ingredients into your bread machine, pour in the bag and then add the yeast.

To stay viable, yeast should be kept dry and cool.  I like to keep mine in the refrigerator.  If I were to add the yeast into the kit initially then I’d also have to refrigerate the entire kit.  Instead I choose to add the yeast later and have a product that can remain shelf stable.

The key to these kits making your life easier is that they not only list what you need to make the rolls–they also have what you need to add back in to refill the kit!  Having that information right there on the bag makes it far likelier that you will actually refill the thing.  Personally I have these kits made up for my pizza dough, bread and the dinner rolls.  As I empty them I tuck the bags behind my flour canister.  When I get several of the same kind I take a few minutes and refill them all assembly line style.  Using flexible cutting boards to hold open the gallon zippered bags will make filling a breeze!

Filling Bread Machine Roll Kits

Initially I just wrote the details on the bags with permanent markers, but for all of you I created some pretty labels (Bread Machine dinner rolls PDF –note this will take you out of the blog post–hit your “back” arrow to return to this page) that you can print out on some Avery Shipping Labels #8168 (or print onto white paper and tape on with clear packing tape).  The labels include what to refill the bag with, what to add when you make the rolls, and the directions for rising and baking.

I make cornbread, scones, applesauce bread, muffins and other mixes but I don’t do anything for my rolls. It seems like such an obvious thing to do. I use mason jars and a canning funnel but I like the plastic bags with the flat cutting board idea. I just found your blog through a search so I am going to start poking around now 🙂
