Dr Seuss and Read Across America

I love to read.  I’ve always loved to read.  One might even say I’m a compulsive reader.  So when someone offers me an opportunity to write a post encouraging reading, well, I’m all over it!

So when Walmart asked the Walmart Mom Bloggers to write about Read Across America and their special Dr. Suess book pricing–I jumped!

read across america

Read Across America is a national reading awareness and motivation program created by the National Education Association.  It has occured annually on Dr Seuss’s Birthday (March 2nd) since 1998!  Since this year March 2nd falls on a Sunday, schools and organizations across America will celebrate on Monday, March 3rd this year.

Of course the NEA has some great resources on their Read Across America page, but Walmart wanted to do their part to support literacy and reading too.  So in honor of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Walmart has some special pricing on their Dr Seuss beginner books ($5-regularly $8.99) and Dr Seuss Board Books ($3.50–regularly $4.99).  These are stores starting 2/23.

Looking for more fun activities and resources?  Suessville (that’s the official site!) has all sorts of fun games, activities and resources. . . and their Read Across America page has printable certificates, classroom activity guides and more.  Great for teachers, homeschoolers or parents!
