Dear Frugal Upstate,

I just came across your post “Using Homemade Laundry Detergent in an HE Washer”  and would like to know how everyone is using power in their front loading HE machines?

Are you putting it in with the wash or putting it in the dispenser? I thought the dispenser was for liquid only?

Thanks,
Phil
Well Phil, I’ve done a little digging and the answer to whether or not you put your powdered detergent in the dispenser for your HE washer is “It depends”.

You see, some washers are made to have the powder put in the dispenser.  Others can use the dispenser after you make a special adjustment.  I’m sure there are some out there where you just toss it in with the load.

So how do you know which is right for your washer?  Read the directions.  Seriously.  It should be in there.

If you have lost your directions try searching Manuals Online’s Washer section or googling the brand and model of your washer along with the term “Manual” or “User Manual”.

If all else fails find the customer service number for your washer’s brand (again, Google) and call up and ask them where you are supposed to put powdered detergent for your machine.

Hope that helps!  Good luck and good washing Phil.
