GIVEAWAY CLOSED
Junk drawers. The bane of many a kitchen.
We all have them-but we don’t know what to DO with them! They become an organizational black hole. Things go in, but they never come out. I know that all that stuff is in there because we are convinced that we might need it. Really. Like tomorrow.
But do we honestly? Of course not! If you want to take control of your junk drawer you need to start by going through and weeding it out. Throw out all that stuff that was already in there when you moved in. Then take a deep breath and tackle all the pieces of random things that you can’t even identify-and all the bits you can that are obviously broken that you won’t ever get around to fixing “some day”.
Now you have a little less stuff, and you have actually seen what it is. Of course you could just toss it back in there and hope for the best, but why not go a step better and organize it so you can FIND that pen, or screwdriver, or key when you need it!
Rubbermaid sent me some nifty drawer organizers to try out-an interlocking 6 piece set-and they gave me another set to give away to one of you lucky readers! The drawer organizers interlock-which helps configure them to various spaces and keeps them from shifting as much when you close the drawers. What a way to get things organized.
Do you need some tips & tricks to get you going? Check out the Junk Drawer Ingenuity Solution on Rubbermaid.com
Now of course you could use my good old frugal method I taught you in Divide and Conquer – cutting down cardboard boxes to use as organizers-but even I have to admit that there is something very pleasant about opening a drawer and seeing such a nice, matching, interlocking, non skid set of organizers inside.
The drawer organizer set I am giving away consists of three 3×3″, one 3×9″, one 3X12″ and one 6×9″. You can read the details of the interlocking drawer organizers on the Rubbermaid site-but they only show the picture for the 3×12″ one.
Now on to the fun part-how to enter the giveaway! Since only one person an win, I do want to let everyone know that there is a $1 off coupon available if you decide to buy your own.

The oddest thing I ever found was a pair of my husband’s boxers – clean ones, thank god! When I asked him about them, I was told that they were there in case he needed a new pair … I didn’t want to know what circumstances he might need them in so I just let it go!

Now that I think about it, the toothpicks are the oddest. Everything else–except the twist-ties I guess–are not food related. But the drawer is the left of the stove, and so having toothpicks there just makes sense (I use them to test cakes/muffins/etc for doneness). Although maybe I should move them to a cleaner spot like to the right of the stove instead!

I once found a packet of those Sea Monkey eggs in our junk drawer. Typically I find legos and buttons or empty tape dispensers.
